  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How loud are stock 2013/2014 TE310R models?

I recently had to sell my 2009 TXC250/310 and may jump on a new TE310R given the ridiculous pricing.

I have been out of the loop for 1.5 years after reconstructive shoulder surgery and don't know much about this 310 other than it is based on the X-lite 250 that debuted a few years ago.

1) I rode an X-lite TE250 with the older EFI and the bike was unrideable in stock condition. It was also way too loud with the db killer out and not quite quiet enough with it in. I bought a new 2009 TXC 250 and put a 310 kit in the bike and was happy. How loud or should I say how quiet is the new 310R?

2) How much tuning is needed to get the Keihin EFI working properly? Does the bike require a bunch of de-restriciting? I don't care about removing a charcoal canister and other other stuff, but don't want to mess with EFI tuning and running a 105 db muffler just to get it to run properly.

3) For casual woods riding, what type of fuel range can I expect?

Thanks.

I hope to be back on a Husky this spring.

I found the new TE310r runs super stock, sounds nice and I did not find it overly loud at all. But then loud is very subjective.

I am uber-sensitive to sound - and would have no issues riding one whatsoever. In fact, I went in to buy one for the same reason as you...the price was just too low. Ironically, someone had knocked the bike over in the showroom and it was not for sale while they ordered a couple of parts. I got my 449 instead and I LOVE it...talk about a quiet bike!

I had some seat time on a 310 that was totally stock and one with some light mods including a pipe. I was plenty fast on the stocker and left it witht he impression that this was a very fine package. If it just had stuff on the correct side, they would have sold more - the left side pipe just freaks me out!

Very nice bikes IMO. If my wife loses the ability to count (fingers crossed) I will buy one in a heartbeat!

My 2012 blew 93 at an Enduro event last fall with the OEM exhaust. I swapped to an after market exhaust and it sounds deeper and doesn't bark as much as the OEM.

You shouldn't need to mess with tuning, however you do need to have the ECU flashed to run the non-restricted map. You also have to remove a few things, like the charcoal canister and catalytic converter, as well as swapping the air filter cage and velocity stack.

I can't vouch for the difference, as all the above was done when I received it. I have heard some refer to the stock setup as quite poor.

hmm, am I the only one that thinks these bikes are quiet? Not nearly as loud as a modified rice rocket or a Harley or even my 2 stroke YZ

We are agreeing with that... I had an 11 TE250 and it sounded a bit weird, tinny and louder than it ought to. My '13 TXC310R is almost as mellow and quiet as a TE449, without the giant muffler...and it still seems to run just fine.

I put a full FMF header/Q4 system in my 2012. Can't tell any difference in sound at all. Too cold to ride. Hopefully there is a performance increase.

Thanks everyone. I know that technically speaking Husky is better off being owned by the same company that own's KTM. And since the new bikes are just blue/white/yellow KTM's, I'd really like to pick one of these up. Granted the new Huskies look awesome enough . . .

Any thoughts on the fuel range?
