    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Help with Shock Shim Stack

Hi all,
I hope you can help me with my Showa shock from a Honda CR250 2002;

The shock was not working properly, little hydraulic effect even with the clicks all in, so I decided to do a maintenance on it. The old oil came out very bad, black and very stinky. I cleaned all up and decided to have a look at the shim stacks and BINGO, the previous owner did some modifications and I would like to understand what this do:

The ACTUAL red column is the stack I found, the others are for reference, they were found over the internet in forums.

I think the rebound is OK as it is. In the compression stack I found some strange things, C15-C16 seem they were flipped , I think they should be: 44 - 37 - 28 - 42

And further down the 18mm shim at C26 seems totally wrong compared to the stock 24 and 22mm shims in this place.

Can you please show me your insights on this ? I use the bike for Enduro (woods/singletrack).
Maybe these modifications make sense and I should let them as they are and just renew the fluid ?
Any explanation on what this 18mm shim will do ?
Or should I get the 24 and 22mm shims to restore OEM ?
Any other recommendations to make this shock more enduro-fiendly ?

I'll probably just take the shock to a specialist but I would like to understand what this 18mm shim does and if it make any sense for Enduro use...

The 18mm is your clamp shim that all the others before it bend over. Smaller clamp softens the entire stack, larger one stiffens it.
 
Thanks, I supposed that, but, does it make sense to use a 18mm in this place ? I mean I think this shock comes a little bit too rough / stiff for enduro / single track, maybe this 18mm shim does make sense then.

Would you leave it as it is ?

I would flip C15-C16 though, does not seem right comparing to the other stacks.
