  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help with chain and chain guide please

I'm working on the gearing of my 2010 TE310. Stock 13/50 was too high and 12/50 seemed to low for the riding I do. Mostly desert trails with family. Today I'm trying to install a Superprox Stealth 52 with the stock 12 (edit: stock 13). The chain is too short at least with the chain guard on. How long a chain do I need? (and how to count?) Do I need a new chain guard or will the longer chain solve the rubbing issues in the chain guard? Too tight now but also the rivets rub the sides. Thanks

Typo in your write-up? You said stock 13 and then stock 12, AND a 12/52 would be lower than the stock 13/50 which you said was too low. I THINK you are trying to do a 13/52 which would be lower than stock, but a hair higher than a 12/50.

My stock chain on a 2010 TE450 was too short as well, I found out when I installed a Dunlop 606 which is a pretty high profile tire, and was hitting the mudflap. I bought a 120 link chain and fit as much chain as I could get with the gearing I had picked out, if it stretches and ends up too long, I can always shorten it.

saw this now... (posted in your other "chain-guard post") I matched mine up with 116links with 13 and 14 with a 50 and found it a tad long but within the range of adjustment- 114 links was pretty much the stock position of the 13/47 with 112 links. So I went with 114. I found that I could have went with a larger rear sprocket whoich would have brought the axel closer to the front (shortening wheel base)- which would be optimal for me in tight trails... SO I thought of going to a 51 or 52 next time- SO you should be golden at 114 but Check for yourself before you cut it down by lining it up
