  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

help with 74 250 mag

Hi guys, I have a 74 250 mag build thread, but need help with something. does anyone have a picture or have any info on the stackup of spacers/seal for the rear wheel assembly? The parts diagram doesn't seem real clear to me. I think im missing maybe a small washer behind the brake plate on my assembly, for i have about 1/16" inch of side play after assembled. Can't seem to find any good reference on the stack-up. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Not sure if this helps or not, but I was cleaning the rear wheel on my 73 250 yesterday to mount new tires and out fell a thin washer I hadn't noticed until I heard it fall. It'not 1/16" thick, but it was there and loose from the rest of the assembly. Only grease holding it there.

yeah, from what i can see, there should be a thin washer directly against the inner bearing race on the brake side of the hub that the brake plate bushing goes against. I think this is my "free-play" issue. i definately do not have that washer. Also, I think at one time, someone must have made a custom bushing/spacer that goes through the brake hub, because it does not match the assembly drawings at all. I'll see if i can come up with something to make it work. im sure it would p[robably be impossible to find all of these bushings/spacers..Thanks for the reply

Funny thing just happened. I was putting my rear wheel back on and when I tightened up the axle I couldn't budge the wheel. I'm thinking, what the hell is going on here? I sat there for a minute and remembered the washer that fell out when I was cleaning the hub and mounting the new tire. I had put the washer in a (safe) place and forgot about it. I replaced it and now my wheel spins freely with no binding. That thin little washer is pretty important I guess.
Should have some pictures up soon showing the progress of my 73 WR250.
