  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help with 73 250wr transmission

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi guys, new to vintage Husky's but raced a 450cr in the day..I've acquired a 73wr motor that appears to be rebuilt. My problem is that it is locked in high gear, whatever that is. I researched and see that it is supposedly a six speed. Is that correct? I'm attempting to split the case, have left clutch case off, cylinder and piston removed and also femsa flywheel. My question is which side can be left intact? Should the right side be lifted up with transmission intact to left side and can the clutch be left intact..Sorry for so many questions but all I have for reference is the exploded diagram from our tech pages..Pat

When splitting the center cases on a 73 remove the right side (ignition side), this will leave the clutch side intact. A case splitter is a good idea to insure there's no damage. Many guys make one or you can buy one for about $150.

The 73 250WR did come with a 6 speed. Just to make sure of the year and whether its a true 73WR, or possibly a 73CR (which had the 5 spd) check the engine numbers.

Thankyou Crash! Splitter coming, ser no. Says 73wr, so I'm gonna go with six speed. Yes, gonna pull right side and hope to get it in 4th gear to reassemble. Someone in here before so probably didn't know difference. Thanks again for reply, I guess there's not a lot of old case splitters on here! Pat

Excellent, you ordered a case splitter. It'll save a lot of grief. Some splitters are also assembly tools, they pull the crank onto the main bearing when assembling the cases. Hope all goes well with the repair.

Well, got the splitter, Rocky Mountain Atv, worked like a champ! Less than 5 minutes after attaching, and up it popped? I did this with clutched and left case intact, pulled off right side and proceeded to reset transmission into 4th gear before reassembling the case. Had a CD that had service manuel, that showed assembly of six speed trans. Went back together in one afternoon. So far so good! Keep you posted. Pat
