• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help..racing te 250 and need to pass 96db sound check

I've started racing with my 2011 te 250 and to enter I need to be 96db when they check my exhaust pipe level. I have a stock pipe but the bike did get it's power up kit plus I put a JD tuner on it. Don't know if that changed the loudness of the bike or not but I don't really want to do anything that affects the power of the bike. Any suggestions?

The spark arrestor is less baffled than the alternate db killer that came with the 2011 bikes, so one option is to swap if you don't need the SA to pass tech. I use an iPhone app SPL Meter that gives readings that match our official club sound meter. Its cheap and will let you know if you are out of bounds. I havent yet run my TE 250 through sound so dont have a example to share, but I could do it sometime soon. The typical 'power up' removal of the intake baffle and cat both would influence the sound output, of course you wouldn't want to race it with those installed.

Example of where to hold the meter. Check at several RPM settings to make sure it will pass.

I need to say the dB/SA plug is horrible for performance. (How do I know....its in my 310 for this weekends requirements). I will most likely go with an FMF S/A slip on. They also list the sound levels of their pipes.

It's ridiculous that husky is advising you to either run no spark arrester and conform to sound requirements or run a spark arrester and have the bike be too loud. Stupid if you ask me.

surprised that a TE would have more than 96db. a new packing doesn't hurt, they are not too efficient
if any water get in the canister before ,it steam and bake it kind of.

Interesting about the water in the pipe. I ride in a pretty wet area at times and have got a small squirt of water in the pipe when washing but it just seems hard to wrap my head around that affecting the pipe. I could go with the db killer but I race in the woods so I can't take the spark arrester out. Think I'm screwed?

On the TE511 FMF with the 96db/spark insert pass sound test. I loose some power on the 511 over the uncorked FMF option. Not sure how the 250 will respond. Note: On our Honda CRF bikes Air cleaner modifications we learned raise sound levels. If you open the Air Cleaner box for more airflow do this on the side opposite of the Exhaust if possible.

On the our 2010 TE310 I removed the spark and installed a modified FMF 96dB/Spark insert. Took some Modifications/ machining that can cannot be undone. Works Great saved me some money until I can swap with a true FMF Exhaust system. I might just take it down and have the set screw welding in and keep it?
