  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help me decide.

I'll try to keep it short n sweet.

I currently have a 2011 TE 250. I only race it in enduros. Occasionally hairscrambles. It has approx 200 hrs on it and has been through a couple "incidents" that should have taken the engine out. But, it still starts instantly and runs good despite lacking severely in power. It needs a top end and clutch fibers at a minimum. Probably a whole basket n all too once I get into it.

Both wheels are bent (they still roll true enough though)
The whole bike looks like it's been in a war zone.

I have the opertunity to get a low hr 2011 txc 250 for a low price. I thought I could put my forks on it, my fuel injector (12 point) and my jd tuner. I can then either sell mine to recover some costs, or maybe use it as a spare parts bike.

Or I could attempt the rebuild on mine.

Or, lastly for another $1k I could get a like new cr 125 with the 165 kit. Problem is, it's the most expensive option, probably has an overly harsh suspension, and a powerband that's probably unusable in the tight woods.

Thoughts?

I dunno.... door #1 or #3 sounds good. do you need to be street-legal? if so have you considered putting the txc wheels/motor in the te and selling the txc?

165: I'm thinking your forks will work on it? and a lot of people use 'em in the tight stuff- you might be surprised how well it works.

selling the te: new plastic, grips and maybe a seat cover goes a long, long ways.

good luck.

165 kit w/pipe and Lectron = woods bike nirvana
But if you like 250 4t the txc sounds like the deal

Thanks for all the responces. I certainly know and feel very comfortable on my TE. My only complaint lately has been the lac of power. After thinking about all the money in parts I've put into it lately- lithium ion battery, fuel tuner, the "perfect" handle bars, a host of suspension bushings and bearings, re valved suspension, a complete new silicone radiator hose kit, radiators etc, I decided to get the TXC. I'm going to throw all the best parts off mine on it, strip mine I think, keep any vital replacements, part the rest. Between how low on power my bike is getting (nearly impossible for resale), how much the CR would cost, and all the work I would have to do to get the CR set up for me I guess is more than what I'm interested in right now.

I still love my 2010 TE250 and I have a 2012 TXC310 also.

Let me know what you are parting out.

I could use some spares.

I don't "think" it does. I'll find out, it has a fueling issue and part of my plan to sort it will be with my aftermarket 12 point injector. I'm finding out the previous owner did poor maintenance to it.
