• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help cleaning Ti header pipe, baked on dirt

robertaccio

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Help needed from last winters wet SoCal riding I have baked on "clay" type stuff on my headers. I have soaked them in dish detergent, put them through the dish washer scrubbed them and have used scotch brite on them but they still have that reddish/tan earth on them. Any magic bullets you guys know. I have used some of those moto specific dirt removers in the past but its been a while. Muck-off perhaps??? I was thinking to just "bead: blast them, but dont want the rough surface that comes from the media blast. They look like Crap!!! Help

I have had good luck using increasingly finer steel wool with chrome or stainless polish on it. If really bad start with scotch brite w/polish.

Oven cleaner would be my next step.
But I have only used it on Aluminum and Stainless Steel.

I admit that I just use a wire brush or a wire brush wheel on my TE headers.:excuseme:

Ya I forgot that one first... The Autosol is just to make it shine.

Thanks all, less elbow grease and more food for thought, all the ideas are filed in my head now.

I completely forgot I had a spray container of S100 moto cleaner, this with a combo of plastic scrub brush and a scotch brite scour pad, did a reasonable clean up. I guess after all the beating it will never have that cool blue shiney patina that the Ti gets when in mint condition. But they look alot better, I just needed to spend more time cleaning and scrubbing and less time thinking and asking, thanks all!

after you get the solids off and the pipe is smooth, clean etc.

try blue-away to get the stains off. then polish the header smooth, clean with super mild soapy water, then alcohol, dry and follow up with simichrome.

bling blang! :busted:

clean again with super mild soapy water (soapy water carries grit off, WD/petrol based stuff just moves it around), alcohol and no touchy the pipes till you fire it up!

on ti only use SS wire or plastic brushes.
