  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

A buddy's 511 is leaking what seems to be oil...anyone know why? And most importantly, how to fix it?
There's no cracks in the cases, no leaks in the gaskets...but this has been reocurring for the past few weeks. The bike is only about a month old btw

It's puking oil from your cases into the airbox, bad. There are several solutions for your friend.

1 : you can unhook the case breather from the airbox and run it to a catch can .

2 : you can get the ZipTy valve cover breather mod kit and puke more oil but it sends it bake to the engine.

3 : I made a special hose for the ZipTy mod and have the breather routed to my chain , i would run a catch can for SM with my setup for safety .

damn, so the whole "1 liter oil only" doesn't necessarily solve it, huh?

my friend will have looong nights ahead

thanks for the tip, Rearwheelin!

Running the engine with 1 liter doesn't solve it and creates problems down the road . There are many successfully running over 1300cc . Our bikes have a second clutch cald a torque limiter, it's designed to slip under xtreme conditions to "give" a little to break stress between the crank and tranny. Running oil levels low only makes the TL build more heat and when it goes out you can loose all drive. Not many have had this go out . The ZipTy mod directly addresses the torque limiter "TL " .

I have plenty of miles on mine using 1 liter, never any overflow or over heating. I have purchased ziptys system,
I think more oil a good thing, but you can surely ride the bike with a liter of 0/40 Mobil one in it, just change
It frequently.

If your buddy has never changed his oil ,he needs to. Might be gas in his oil from ring blow by during break in.

There seems to have been a glitch when starting this thread through my phone, and now there's 2 identical threads :/ sorry folks!

Anyways...he's running LESS THAN 1lt oil in it now and there's no more leak...he says the book recommends 750cc :excuseme:
if it's true that running so little oil can ruin the motor than he best go for a breather mod

thanks for the inputs, fellas!

PS: Rearwheelin, even if he was selling the passenger pegs, covering shipping cost from Indonesia to where you are won't be fun :)
