• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Heat Shield Swap Out Options

Looking at the stocker that I have on my half Leo has me thinking of other options - It just looks out of place - Has anyone wrapped theirs up to the connector on the can and if so, any hidden "Gotchas" I should be aware of? - Pics would be great too

Thx lads

I can tell by the replies you guys are DIEING to know what I have come up with

Well, Hall's said that Leo does not sell the CF piece from the Full TI, separately - I am now left with Powder Coat of Wrap - I like the wrap idea but need to get in there and see if there is anything funky that would impede my progress

I don't have any exhaust wrap experience. Will wrap shield you enough that you aren't going to burn/melt something?

I have my HD wrapped and have not burned anything yet

Here's what I did when I had the hacked-on FMF on mine:

The little carbon shield is a Moose universal shield. It's just held on by a couple hose clamps. It sits right where your leg would normally contact the pipe.

I didn't like the look of the stock guard either so I painted it with hi-temp low gloss black paint and it's held up for over two years. All you need is about $10 in painting supplies to get the job done.

That's probably the route I'd have gone if I could still use the stock heat shield with that FMF. Just blackening it goes a long way toward making it look less huge.

I was lucky I had no problems doing that with my Leo Vince pipe. The cover really looked put of place when it was silver.

I don't know if it was the right thing to do, but while I had my stock shields in the house for black-out painting this winter, I covered the inside of the shields with adhesive backed Thermo-Tec. (I hate melted pants.) I also used some 1x3 thermo sleeve on the wire that runs down the front downtube frame near the header.

I've never had a problem with too much heat coming from my heat shield, and it can get pretty hot in California in the summer. Let us know how the Thermo-Tec works out.

Good idea on insulating the wiring harness. Mine was starting to melt and I had no idea until I was swapping my exhaust.

I got the idea on insulating the wire harness from your post and pics.

Was able to slip the sleeve right down the wire after disconnecting a connector above. A few zip ties, and no worries. Thanks for posting up on the issue!
