    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Has anyone tried running EFI software from a Netbook?

I'm thinking about trying iBeat on one of these teeny little "Netbook" laptops. You know, the ones with 10 inch screens, N450 ATOM processors that run about 1.6 Ghz? They weigh about 3 lbs and will fit in a hydration backpack. They also run about 8 hours on a full charge.

Anyone ever try one yet?
 
The netbooks I've read reviews on don't have cd/dvd drives. Not enough room physically. May be able to rip the iBeat disc to a USB stick and install that way, not sure how locked down the install discs are. Also, sounded like folks were having issues with W7 64 bit not liking iBeat. 32 bit didn't seem to have probs if I remember the thread right.

Netbook sized computer would be perfect for taking along on the ride and experimenting with settings.
 
If a netbook has a usb port I would think and external dvd/cd player could be used to install the software.

You could always buy a netbook from somewhere that has a reasonable return policy in case it did not work.
 
I haven't tried yet, but I don't see why it should work as long as it doesn't Linux. Many of the Netbooks I looked at run either XP Home or Win7 Starter which are both 32bit. The iBeat CD is only 115MB which should install OK from a USB drive.

You could probably take iBeat loaded on a thumb drive to a smaller computer shop that would allow you to try loading on a Netbook. Take the EFI USB interface with to see if it reads the port OK when it starts up.

Ive seen many of these Netbooks for $250.
 
Should run it just fine, I run the powercommander software on mine, along with other much more intensive programs.
 
It worked fine on a small Asus here, and you dont need any CD/DVD drive. Use any other desktop computer to copy "DiagnosticTool2.00_English.msi" (about 23mb) from the ibeat CD to a USB stick.
