  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Handlebar alternative?

2012 te511, I really have a problem with the stock handlebars. My wrists and thumbs get very sore and numb. I'm looking for a replacement need with more sweep at the grips. Does anyone have a recommendation, or do we at least know the stock specifications?

I'd look into the flexx bars. I think there is a discount on them through BRP for being a Cafe member. I thought it was a cool idea but rode a buddies bike with them and couldn't believe the feel. I didn't notice the vibes and it really makes you feel like you can ride longer. As far as regular bars, I'm no help.

Im 6'4 and use 30mm risers with Pastrana fmx hi bend bars.
My stand up stance gave me heaps more confidence and aggressive feel.

I use Faast Flexx bars with Highwaydirtbike's anti-vibration handlebar ends. You can order them up to 116mm for taller riders without using spacers. These allowed me to instal Cycra hand guards with BRP machined swiveling ends. No more vibration, no more washboard, no more sore elbows, shoulders or arm pump.
BRP offers 10% off to CH members.

Those Flexx bars are really nice, but another $350? Nah... I picked up some Pro Taper Woods Low, and grips ($59). I'll try those out and see how I like 'em.

I use Moose brand bars. I like the Burleson bend, have a little more sweep than stock, & already at 29.5" so you don't lose control area (that's where the lever perchs go) if ya need them for tight woods. Likewise I didn't care for the bend of the stock bars....

Risers with a rearward offset might be what you need if your hands are going numb. Usually that's a sign of having to bend forward to reach the bars instead of a natural upright riding position.
