  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st Hammerhead shifter tips question

I really want a longer shifter to give my size 14 boots some room. I've called hammerhead and left messages and talked to a person who said she would have a sales person call me. I've also sent a PM and e-mails to various sponsors/vendors here at the Cafe about the driven shifters. So far No returned e-mails or PMs to tell me if they have a longer shifter or if the hammerhead +20 tip will fit the stock or Driven shifter.

Can anyone here tell me if they have done this?

I will buy a shift lever, a tip or any combination of the stock, Driven or hammerhead shifter to get a longer shifter.

This is for an 09 WR250

the springs for the hammer head don't fit the stock shifter and the stock springs internal diameter is to small for the hammerhead pin. better off to buy whole shifter.

I have put a HammerHead tip on a stock Husky lever on both the WR and TE levers, but the Zip-Ty unit would be easier to do. It should go right on the WR lever. You might have to use the stock WR spring, but you can make it work.

Alrighty! Lets see a full blown thread on this!

Can we say you are getting your SHIFT TOGETHER!

I might get one for each bike just for the looks. Last time I looked down, there were no BIG FOOT sightings so I gotta go standard. Just two feet walking around in crop circles!

I have the zip-ty tip on my wr.It needs a thin washer to take up a little extra space and it uses the stock spring. It took about 5 minutes to install.

That's good info. I was about to order a shift tip from Hammerhead, but by the time I got it in my cart + shipping, the price doubled. I emailed them about the exorbitant shipping costs and got no reply. :( Anyone want to order me one, and I'll pay you via paypal?

Do we need to take up a collection box for a digital camera to pass around? Just joking!

I have enough trouble with bifocals and losing needle clips.

Shipping to Canada makes all the difference.

Picasaweb.google.com is a great place to host photos. Free, easy.

Now that looks good! What Hammerhead tip did you size up? Or off of which bike? I want one but just need stock lengths.

The 1st pic is the Driven shifter with the Hammerhead tip, the second pic it the woods behind my house where I got it muddy before I took the pic.

Notice the small hole I drilled in the tip to capture the stock spring, you would do the same thing if you were using the stock the stock lever
youre a genius doug! that little hole is the key. i ended up butcherin the driven spring(duh) so used the stock shifter tip spring. a little tight to get in but works perfect. great mod mate, thank you very much. cant wait to try it out on friday, feels heaps better just sitting on the bike! you are a legend

Apparently there is a post missing that is in the quote above me. I didn't see this and cut my stock spring to fit into the the +20 Hammerhead tip I bought. It didn't work out so well. It dug into the aluminum and wouldn't allow the tip to fold back into place. I was able to unwind one coil of the Hammerhead spring and make it fit the OEM shifter. It works great. I did have to add about an 1/8" of material with my welder to the end of the shifter so that the tip would be at 90 degrees to the shifter. Otherwise it was at more than 90 degrees.
