As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
if you look close at the prototype frame and the production belgium frame here you can see the differences.heres some pics of the cr500 proto type believed to be grossis 83 works bike!View attachment 25251View attachment 25252View attachment 25251View attachment 25252
Hi, I have a XC 500, 83 mod it has the same frame as the main tube that goes across where the top shock mounts are is open both ends i also have a CR500 ,82 mod and it is closed in as my 84, 430 and 250 wr are is that the way 83 is??heres some pics of the cr500 proto type believed to be grossis 83 works bike!View attachment 25251View attachment 25252View attachment 25251View attachment 25252
we have had the frame chemically dipped so as to find all the id marks, head stock stamped husqvarna prototype.theres no sleave for for the chain roller on the right hand side above the swinging arm pin hole, and the web is longer,on the left the web is flat and cut around the smaller angled part of the frame.also the frame was silver from the start rather than white.if you look at the aug 82 promotion pictures of the grossi bike take a look at the swing arm,if you blow the photo up you can even see the plates under the shock holes.the engines on the bench now so will let you know whats inside!spec says a choice of 4 or 6 gears!
we bought the bike from a breakers in california just after christmas this year,it had been sat in a garage for years before that and at some point in its past found itself fitted with a later 84 plastic tank and seat,it was always going to be a risk buying a bike unseen from the states but with alittle home work and a number of phone calls to andy at hva factory we realised what it could be! the bike will be on show at the 2013 dirtbike show at stonleigh
Can you post more pics, please ?i think its the bike above! i know he had a blue tank bike but that didnt have the lengthened swing arm,the bike we have here is identical in every way to the poster bike of august 82 right down to the welds and gusseting when the pictures blown up.it still has the gold handle bars and forks though faded.what we dont know is what the engine has inside other than the wiseco piston that we can see.i cant find any pictures of the right side of the bike anywhere on the net if anyone has any!
Cracking find that I'll look forward to seeing at Stonleigh...
two things...
1. I can't quite see properly, but is that the original inlet manifold on the Grossi picture or is it a Mossbarger ?
2. Where can I get one of those Grossi shirts from ? I had one in 1981 a couple of years before husky changed the colour schemes in Europe. I'd lobe to get one made.
Cheers,
Steve
