  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Good Results with Iridium Plug

I second the Iridium plugs, I replaced the stock NGK CR9EB with an Iridium CR9EIX in my 2011 TE310 and it runs great.

The spark is said to be more intense. More intense spark should burn fuel better and more of it. I have not had one foul but all my bikes are jetted good.

I moved this thread cause it seems like it would be a better fit.

Waste of money IMO, $22 here in Oz, and it only lasted about 5 hrs in my sons KX80 before no spark what so ever. May have been unucky to get a bad one but I will stick with a standard type plug from now.

I found this post when deciding whether to get iridium or not. FYI I bought 4 CR9EIX for $40 incl postage off ebay, so not too different on cost. For a 2012 TE310.

They work very well in my TE511. I have an old out-of-state Chevy truck that will not smog here in California without adding huge quantities of alcohol to the fuel. This year I added iridium plugs to the tired engine and it passed smog on regular fuel.

Iridium plug sure made my Scorpa easier to start.
I have one waiting to go into the TE511, looks like you have to take 1/2 the bike apart to get at the plug.

I took my air filter out to take the coil out. Once you get your coil out, you will find that the bolt is recessed in the plastic housing. Grinding off the edge on the coil housing will make it easier to put back and remove next time.

how does the connector on the coil come off?

I'd like to get my hands around the neck of the engineer who designed the 511 engine. The effort required to get the valve cover off or access the spark plug is downright ridiculous.

Just out an iridium plug in my 511. Don't know if it made that much difference but it can't hurt.

Suputin, yeah I agree about the plug.
Glad I tried it in the garage the 1st time.
It's gonna be a pain in the coil to pull the plug if ever she goes underwater on a trail somewhere.
I need to buy a 1/4" drive plug-wrench for my tool bag.

That would be BMW. I think the 449 is a pretty sweet engine actually. I own a KTM 525 race bike that is 510cc's and though the suspension on it is something magical, engine vs engine to my TE511 beats it hands down with 478cc's. The iridium plug helps for cold starts and resists fouling. It will last a very long time which is a good thing considering the trouble of removing one.
