  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Glowing exhaust from engine

C Class
I bought a smr 450 2006 in the summer time and it ran fine no problems. Today i went out after being cold for a couple days to start it and it was glowing red from the exhaust after the manifold or engine im not very familiar with bikes could this be a carb problem or just from sitting for a couple days in a cold garage please hellp****************************************!!¡¡¡¡¡

Could be a good indication that you're running lean. Colder temps mean denser air and that translates into less fuel:air.

Did you check the color of your plug after this happened?

Was it dark out? I had the same thing years ago on my Honda 450x. That bike was tuned perfect and it will glow if left running at idle for a few minutes. Problem being is nobody actually sees it. Make sense? How acutally lets their bike idle in the dark for 5 minutes at looks at it.

But what is your jetting?

It happens, especially to bikes with titanium exhaust, you just cant see it in the daylight as easily as a closed garage. It is nothing to worry about as long as the bike is running fine.

Later,

My Aprilia 550 used to do that all the time if left to idle too long. A bit spooky but totally normal.

Yep red pipes are cool. Ever see the back cylinder on a Harley after it's been idling on a warm evening?

Oh and by cool I mean hot but ok. Mines fuel injected with old 2005 technology and has been dyno tuned, but it will still do it now and again. If it ain't broke....

Havnt pulled the plugs yet what are some guidelines for different colour a from them I might pull them out tomorrow

White is too lean, wet, black, or sooty is too rich.

You want a nice light brown, something close to milk chocolate in colour.
