• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Give me some advices on exhausts? Approx 1997 610TC

Hi, you guys are really helpful, so here's a question more:
I've thought about getting an aftermarket exhaust for my bike. But I've noticed that I can look straight through my stock exhaust. So it's not like I would get any more power or more sound out of an aftermarket one is it? :-)

If you have an aftermarket exhaust and like it better then stock, please do tell a bit about it.

I have two stock exhausts which are straight through, I got them off eBay thinking they were akrapovics, but someone had just gutted them painted them black and put akrapovic stickers on them. I was pissed off to say the least. Only cost me 100 quid though.

I've run four pipes on my 610's over the years. The Big Gun and Malcolm Smith racing were much lighter, but didn't give much power gains as they were slip ons and the stock head pipes are a bit restrictive due to the sharp angle at the head. The Uptite is a whole system and gives quite a power boost and you still might be able to order one, but I'm not sure George ships over seas. I put a Fast by Feracci (Pro Circuit) on my 2000 and it made a lot more power. The 2000 to 2003 head pipes are better than on the older twin pipe models IMO.

Sounds interesting Huakyfatman.
Link to George?
If you samt to sell one of your pipes do tell
Would also like to see how they look :-)

I dont think my stock is that restriktive as I dont know what sharp bent you mean. I can look straight through mine :-)

To be fair there fine on the road as standard. Mines purely to have fun on and make noise. I've a sports bike to go fast on. So I'm happy with the twin pipe set up. Do you guys who want more power race them?

Here's my '93 back in the day with an Uptite pipe.

My '95 with the Big Gun slip on. I had the head pipes ceramic coated to match. I don't have any pics of the MSM pipe. It was a stainless megaphone style and very light. The Big Gun was ceramic coated steel and the Uptite is nickel plated steel and a bit heavier than the others, but made way more power. They are all much lighter then the stock duals, which are well made and do look super cool.

Here's my old 2000 with the FBF/Pro-circuit pipe I got cheap off Ebay. Much lighter and more powerful than the stock single which was quiet though. Came with a nice home made carbon shield. The 2000's had the same sub frame and single exhaust as the '01 and up 570's and they won't mount to the twin pipe models.

I stole this pic from Tahoesteve's post. I believe it's an Malcolm Smith pipe, which uses the stock headers. It's a light pipe, but not much power gain because of the stock headers. Also, the on the '94 and up bikes this pipe doesn't allow the kickstand to go all the way up, so it likes to come down while riding. '93 and down had swingarm mounted stands that didn't go up that far.
All the US built pipes I've listed are out of production, except possibly the Uptite, which is the best one anyway. Akrapovic, Arrow, Termignoni and some other European exhaust companies might still make some good quality pipes for the older bikes.

So the most power lie in the headers?

And the exhaust with the biggest powergain you guys know are the Uptite full system?

The headers on the '92-'99 are very large diameter, but start off at a sharp angle. I'm not familiar with any older Euro brand pipes, but the Uptite header has much better flow, slip ons I've tried that use the stock headers are pretty limited. I may have even lost a bit of power with the Big Gun.

That's sure some super pictures. But I know how my stock headers look mate! ;)
Do you have some pictures of the Uptite - Good flow ones?
(If they are too rare, one could maybe get some made :-) )
either way would be interesting to see the difference!

And do you know if we are talking 1-2 hp stock exhaust system VS. full Uptite system? or 5 hp or? :-)

I don't have an Uptite nor can I find a photo of one off of a bike, but here is a bad phone pic of a stock 2000 header (excuse the Berg). Notice the improved angles, it is better than the older larger diameter down angled header, although the muffler is pretty heavy and restrictive.

The Uptite has an even smoother bend if I remember correctly. Dirt Bike did a pipe comparison on a '99 YZ400f and the Uptite smoked all the other pipes in power output but didn't win because it was too loud. I think it made like 5HP over stock on the YZf and a good 2 or 3 more than the others.

Hopefully someone will conjure up a photo of the head pipe for you, good luck!

The stock YZ made 32HP they tested mine first( just to get it out of the way they had over 30 different pipes from all over to test) .
40HP made 4 more than the next best pipe tested.
Made more torque at 2500 RPM less than the next best.
Didn't have my silencing end cap turn down done yet so it was loud( Bad Ass to the bone like AA Fueler Bad Ass).
After they ran all of the pipes they put mine back on just to confirm it wasn't a fluke, now the bike was broken in as it was brand new it picked up 1 more HP.
End cap turn down made it quiter than most. Just 2 weeks late.
Figured I try something different a little later and made a head pipe picked up 3 more
Guys running the Dyno sent me the Dyno sheets and said I was going to get screwed.
I did but use to it.
$10,000.00 a month in advertising makes the difference between 1st and 8th.
Just like bike shoot outs and bike tests.
Told them had to jet it up for HP they didn't want to take the time.

On my Husky pipes they were copied a lot MS,Big Gun,ect. ect but no one made more HP.
On my reverse cones it's big power.
Nothing sounds better than a big thumper reverse coned on the cam.

Thanks George.:notworthy: I was going off of memory, so sorry I short changed you on the power gains. I remember reading that article and thinking how similar it was in irony to most of the four stroke shootouts of the 90s where the 610 won in every category, but the XR600 would tie it because of price. Then there would be a two page Honda add. LOL!:excuseme:

All I know is my '93 Husky 350 with an Up-tite pipe would only loose about two bike lengths up to about 85mph against my buddy's Al Bakerized XR600 then he'd top out in 5th and get passed, plus he weighed about 75lbs less.
