• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Giant Loop?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody has fitted Giant loop gear to their 630, and any pros and cons of each.
I was thinking of the coyote saddlebag + dry bag for the rear of the bike for up to three nighters away. Any opinions for or against will be appreciated.

Mick

I have the Fandango, the Coyote, and the MoJavi, and I couldn't be happier.

Here is the Fandango/Coyote loaded up for a week long trip from Nebraska to Colorado and back:

Here is the MoJavi loaded with tools for some local riding:

I recently went down on pavement going about 45 MPH and tore a hole in my MoJavi. I contacted Giant Loop who instructed me to ship it to them for repairs. They repaired the bag and shipped it back to me, free of charge.

Jtemple,
Can you show where you tied off the Coyote bag? And are you using the heat sheild? Or just a clamp?
Thanks

Giant Loop stuff is considered to be among the best of the best. Pricey, but good quality and great customer service. Check out Wolfman stuff for slightly less cost with high quality as well.

To anchor the bags, I re-purposed the passenger peg mounting brackets. I cut & drilled some AL angle and attached some stainless steel quick links. I have since rounded the corners on the AL angle pieces.

For heat shielding, I used their included heat shield at first. I didn't like the eyesore look and the way it marks up the can. So, when I bought my Leo system, I came up with something else. What I use are a pair of exhaust sliders.

Nomad Rider is another option as well. They actually have improved features over Giant Loop at practically half the cost. Jury is still out on quality but so far so good. I love my Sherpa Tank bag and the Venture bag is huge.

You kinda have to play the heat shield thing by ear. Their included heat shield (you get one with the bag) is very functional, but also very ugly and will mark up your can. My bags barely touch the sliders on my can. The MoJavi probably doesn't touch at all. I could probably get by without any heat shielding. But when you spend > $300 on a bag, why take the chance?

I do not use the heatshield at all as does not touch the can. Also I have now had the headers and inner of the exhaust ceramic coated and runs real cool.

Why have you opted for a fuel bladder instead of a Nomad tank? Being in OZ I would have thought you may look at the Nomad option. I would be worried about the bladder shifting (never mind leaking). Also I attach my Coyote further forward on the rear of the seat (see below). I am hoping to get a mate to bring a Nomad out for me and will use it in conjunction with the Coyote.

I keep my coyote further forward as well, because of subframe strength concerns.

Yeah that too - if I fit a Nomad tank I will brace the rear subframe or construct a complete new one out of stronger alu stock, which is easy for the 610. I will also go for a tank with a lowish profile so the GL can rest on it a bit if need be.
