    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hey all, just got a set of the Coyote's for a TE630. I know a few of you guys have them out there and wanted to know a bit about how they fit, specifically about the heat shields and the stand off's on the backside of the plastics side panels.

Has anyone had any melt downs and how have you set them up? My (limited as of yet) experience is that I've got a heat shield on each can just in case things get too warm. The instructions mention to put a hose clamp in between the plastic and exhaust to act as an extra stand off but the ones that are all ready there seem like they'll do the job. What have you done?
 
Did your Coyote include one of their Hot Springs heat shields? They look like this:

You clamp that onto your muffler and it is your heat shield. Here's one installed:

It's metal on metal, and will leave marks on your muffler. For my stock muffler and my cheap-ish FMF slipon, I didn't mind so much. But when I got my full Leo system, I didn't want to mark up my fancy new Ti exhaust system. So, I went with a pair of muffler sliders:

They work great, look better, and don't scratch up your can.

Thanks for the info. Mine did come with the heat shields pictured above in your post. My question is more along the lines of does your side plastics have any protection apart from the plastic stand off's that is built-in on it? From the pic on your bike it looks like you have nothing else other than the 2 sliders, the supplied heat shields more or less do the same thing I'm guessing. The picture of the KTM doesn't really seem to be quite the same configuration as what we've got on the 630...

I put the metal heat shield back right about where those two muffler sliders are. The plastics have that rubber grommet standoff built into them and that's enough to keep the bags from contacting the can(s).

Here's my bike with the OEM exhaust and GL heat shields in place. The bag isn't very heavily loaded, but you get the idea. It rides lower with more stuff in it.
