• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Can someone maybe help. i have a 97 te610. The bike will go into 1 and 2 but thats it. It was working fine at the start of the ride but after about 25 klm i stopped for a breather and thats when it decided to do this.

Check and make sure that the shift lever is returning to center after shifting to 2nd. You would be able to get 1st, N and 2nd even if the shift lever springs were dead/gone, so that may be it, or it could be sticking or interfering with something.

Yeah had a minor mishap and broke a tooth off the cage and broke the clutch hub. So im up for a few dollars now. Not a good night:cry:

Heres my new delema. I have just got of the phone to the bike shop and the news is that i can not get a new clutch hub as they nolonger make them. I wish i just sat back and had a beer last night.

What was your mishap? Did it involve a wrench?

The clutch basket is the same as the 450-510-630, and the hub should be the same as well. Get the parts diagrams from Halls Cycles and compare the part numbers. All else fails, get a 510 basket and a slipper clutch! :D

Funny you give me that info the bike shop said "there are no matches with other bikes" This is my problem living in darwin if the shop does not have the info in front of them its to hard. I supplyed all the part numbers for halls to them. If i did what my gut said and not listen to the apparent pros i would not of even touched the clutch and the bike would have been fixed. The mishap mdid invole a wrench and a slip...

Well just to let you all know its terminal..something is gone in the gear box. That equates to 3k+ in rebuild. It's worth more than the bike. No more riding until the coin can be saved for a new one maybe a 2t this time.:(

Sad to hear :/ You may find what you need for sale in the classifieds here or on SMJ. Sometimes whole engines pop up for not that much $

And does your dealer even know what's "gone" ? If they can't give you a detailed explanation other than "it'll be $3k, might as well buy a new bike" then you should be out the door before they even finish their sentence...

I'm with RDTCU. If these guys can't seem to pin things down definitively, or do the right research and provide good answers, then there's really no reason to have confidence in their latest assessment. If you can ferret out another mechanic get a second opinion or, as you've nothing to lose, start the tear-down yourself to see what you learn. That's an old bike, but a good one, so if you enjoy it then it may be worth rebuilding.

Eric, i seam to have got the same responce from my work mate's so its time to pull down an engine and see how i go. do you know were ian get a free manual for the bike.
