  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gas tank expansion

Don't know if this has been addressed, so here it goes. Had a real bizzar episode with the gas tank on my '12 TXC 310. I had one of those short cap vent hoses with the billet valve on top. After our ride last Sunday, had the bike loaded and was sucking down a Mountain Dew when I looked at the bike, and the lower part of the gas tank was puffed up like a toad! Enough to where it popped out the lower black shrouds from underneath the red uppers! Yes, it was sitting in the sun. I uncorked the gas cap and it began to return to normal. Just like a plastic fuel jug would. Apparently, that little valve in the vent hose didn't allow expanded vapor to escape. Pretty freeked out at this point. Popped the black shrouds back in and thought all was good. Got home, unloaded, and put her on the was stand. Got it washed and buffed. I always start my bikes afterward to dry things out a little, so I fired her up. Started smelling gas and heard a sizzling sound. When the gas tanked puffed up, unbeknownst to me, it pulled the fuel line off of the right side spigot and was puking fuel on a HOT header. Liked to crapped my britches! So, be forwarned on the little vent hose with the billet valve thinga ma jigger. Am I alone in this freaky galaxy?

Those vents are junk. I used one once and it didnt vent at all, the bike didnt even run. I'm surprised the Husky ran, maybe cause its fuel injected.

I've got 'em on my KX & KDX and haven't had a problem with them. Now it makes me rethink things a little bit...............but they're so purty.

Those things are great for breaking a tank while it sits in a hot garage in the AZ summer. I had one once for about 1hr and got rid of it. Stick with a normal vent tube.
