• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gas Cap Gaskets?

The new caps come with a dubious gasket that swells up with the fuel fumes.
For new ones, just buy some Nitrile sheet (Ni70) and make one. If I remember I will go down to the workshop tomorrow and measure the thickness.

Be careful with the choice of seal material, as the Ethanol that has been added to fuel in the last 12 months is causing some seals to swell and block the breather vents....

Whilst we are on the subject of gas caps.. can anyone confirm the colour of a 1983 cap??.. I have read at Comontofski's site that they were black, not chrome.. I am doing a 510 4T and the cap needs replacing... I remember the caps having a vent/hose on them ..but were they black..?? I have a brochure from 1983.. but the caps in the pics are chrome.. but that may be , as Husky did, use previous years stock.. Anyone..??

84 caps are plastic and black with a vent in the top, chrome was on the alum tanks only as far as im aware

I agree..but I am asking about the 1983 tanks...my 510 came with a plastic tank ..a similar shape to the alloy tanks of 1981/82/83.. I am going to put an alloy tank on my 4T.. so..chrome or black..??

alloy would be chrome....ol mate had an 83 xc with a chrome cap then another mate got a 84 a/c WR which was plastic with the big screw on plastic cap

So.. I'm not saying that Craig is totally correct all the time..but see below..a dircet cut and paste from his website..

How about the correct, brand new gas caps for your 67 thru 80 Husqvarna! or Maico!
You can add a vent tube in the center and be correct for 81-82 Husqvarna.
You can powdercoat it black and be correct for 83 (some 84).
If you selling a used bike, why not make it look attractive to a potential buyer by fitting it with a new shiney cap.

1 cap - $40
2 caps - $75
3 caps - $100
4 caps - $120

packaging/shipping - $10 for 1-4 caps

Anyone else..??

I stand corrected, just peeked in the tech ref and the xc 1983 brochures show a black cap with a vent tube on the alloy tank...go figure .. im not often right and im wrong again....:)

Found the measurements ! ...... put the piece of paper down and the fairies moved it !

O.D. 55.6 mm
I.D. 37.5 mm
Thickness is 2mm

I will try making one from NI70 sheet and let you know how I get on.
