  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Fx Intake Tube In A 2017 Fe350?

Lorne D

AA Class
I just picked up a 2017 FE 350 and it needs some help. I intend to buy Slavens' Vortex ECU and emissions delete to go with a Rocket exhaust that I'm going to have modified to fit. I'm not too thrilled with the idea of reeds on my intake just for the sake of quieting, but I've seen where the reeds can be removed and some add an intake tube to hold the boot open. I'd rather just put a boot from an FX if it will fit. They use the same airbox, so I don't think it'll be a problem. Has anyone done this yet?

Not sure what your outcome was since it was a few months ago, but I did it on a 18 501fe. Just swapped the intake boots and it worked. I believe I had to drill out screw holes for the sensor, but not big deal. Used wood screws and no problems yet.

Let me know what you did.

I used an FX airbox. I used some of the KTM screws that are used on a fuel tank after hogging out the holes for the bushing insert. Fits perfectly, no reeds! I also found an extra filter cage from one of the 300s that doesn't have a screen and I desmogged everything. I'm using the Slavens Vortex ECU. Now it runs like a race bike should.

Yep, I put the FX intake on my 2018 FE350 and I can confirm it bolts right up. You will want to order the screws that Lorne D talks about above. They have a heavy thread for biting into plastic, not the machine thread found on the FE for the temp sensor. You will also need to decide where to route your valve cover vent hose, as the FX boot doesn't have an input for it. I routed mine to dump into the airbox, but you could probably just vent it to the atmosphere somewhere down low.

That's why I used an FC intake boot on my 501.
