• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Fuel Miles per Tank

OK guys i've a te630 which has the pu done, air filter box sorted and a single exhaust with larger headers on. Really pleased with how the bike goes after these upgrades but i'm not sure about my fuel range. What should I expect to get before the light comes on? Mine seems to be flicking on and off from 40 miles, not sure if the bike is drinking it or my fuel light is screwed.
Thanks in advance.

How many gallons do you need to refill at 50 miles. I usually go ~130-140 miles before the light comes on.

.

I usually get about 110 or so before the light comes on, would be near empty at about 130, a little less if I've been to the mountains. But that's with my SMS all gutted and richened up and me goofing off all the time with a good bit of WOT...

My light comes on at around 200 miles and then I still safely have another 60-70 miles. More if I'm riding easy. So happy to have the Safari.

TE630, PU, JD Tuner with out of the box settings, FMF Q4, 14 tooth CS, airbox mod. Aggressive 250 lb rider. 100 miles till the light comes on. another 10 and I'm pushing. DAMHIKT! :(

Considering a Safari prior to the TAT.... duh!

Light comes on at about 100 miles for me. At that point I have about half a gallon of fuel left; maybe 20 miles.

I gotta get me one of those Nomad tanks from Motosportz.

Thanks for all your replies guys i expected around 100 until the light comes on. I think i'll ride her full to dry and take it from there.

114 and light came on. Mix of dirt and interstate (75mph). I managed 43mpgs and consider i have the FMF Q4, dunlop 606s, 15/45 gearing, and JT programer, i am very happy.....My safe range is 120miles with a 1gal rotopax still full.

Just did 1,200 miles of the TAT riding my TE610 together with a KTM 500 EXC rider. At 130 miles, she would take 2 gallons, so if the tank holds 3.1, I guess I will be just under 200 miles to empty.

I believe it, they run obnoxiously lean from the factory. Any mods? If only you knew how much cooler it would run without cats and richened up... I can squeeze out about 120mi/tank on the SMS, but it's a lot more responsive and fun with the mods.

Also, the TE has a taller 5th and 6th gear than the SMS...

I'm just about to do the cans and PU. Bigger rear sprocket after that.

Just don't take off into the boonies til you see what kinda mileage you get after the PU... And you should AT LEAST get it to the dealer for an I-beat tune, if you don't go for the JD... Good 630 Ibeat settings seem to be 103/120/112.

Light comes on around 114 and I'm empty around 155 miles. 14/41 gearing, pu, Wings exhaust w/ibeat. Mostly east coast backroads, gravel and dirt roads.

Provided the mixture is optimum at full power demand, or full throttle, there is nothing wrong with running as lean as possible when the motor is not stressed. Running around 14.5 at full power is in theory the requirement, but if the fuel air ratio is reduced, then lower power can be achieved with wider throttle opening, at much higher efficiency. The higher the compression ratio, the more this is possible. Running richer mixtures at low power requirement has two disadvantages, one being less efficiency, with more pumping losses and the other being fouling the motor over a period of time, which will result in a power loss in itself. Husky did their homework well on the 610, if one changes factory settings the bonus should be more power, without losing fuel consumption at lower power demand.

The light usually comes on around 140 road miles on my 07 SM with Leo and "stuff" to make it run right. I've maxed it out at 172 miles to clear out of fuel. I typically figure on 40 mpg as a worst case and look for fuel at 120. Off road we were adding fuel around 100 miles.
