• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

...............does anyone know if 2000-2002 Husqvarna CR forks will fit in 1887-1888 (upside down fork) triple trees ?

Cheers All.

I think in 1887 the triple trees were still made of wood.

Sorry, Just being a smart ass

If the steering stem height is same or close (7.30" on 1987) between the 2 bikes and the bearings can interchange, yes. If the stem is longer on the 2002 you can use a spacer under the bearing to make up the difference. The 87 frame takes 50mm OD races and the steering stem is 25mm top and bottom. If the stem is different you may need a bearing supply to check if a suitable bearing is available.

You also have to make note of how far apart the fork tubes are. If they aren't the same and they usually aren't the wheel doesn't sit in the center of the bike. I do know that the 45 mm upside marzoki (sp) will fit in a 48 mm ktm clamps with four layers of that aluminum from a clothes dryer vent which comes in two foot sections inserted in the bottom hole. The wheel isn't in the middle but could be adjusted with the spokes. I was suprised that it didn't seem noticable that the wheel was off center. The axle can be a bit short as well. The ktm clamps do have the advantage of coming in a whole lot of offsets which are plainly marked or commonly listed in used parts sales. Of course there is another advantage as well. Need to change the race in the frame and a sleazy all balls seal without the spacer that comes with it would make the stem pretty darn close, I used the ktm seal and it is perhaps a tenth of an inch from where it really is supposed to be.

I measured some forks and tripple clamps. I am sure they are the same dimentions as all of the 45 mm upside down ones in the 2000's but it was 1999 te 410 to be exact the clamp and forks I measured. Top 2.112 inches diameter, bottom 2.278 inches diameter and 7 5/16 inches apart from center to center measured at the top adjusters as best as I could. A Ktm clamp like meantioned above was 7 15/32 inches apart for the tubes.

If you havn't got a direct answer in a few days I can measure some 1999 cr 125 forks I have on my silver framed 500 which are leaking out the adjuster under the handlebars and I intend on tinkering with or taking somewhere. That one has 2002 wr clamps on it.

Thanks Fran. The triple trees finally rocked up, from a 88 CR, they are a bolt on to the 85, for the later USD forks . My lack of experiance with modern huskys became apparent when polishing them, the 'bad casting mark' turned out to be a elephant logo, a very shiney one now ;) !!

l have 00-02 CR forks + axle, and a double piston caliper coming. To start i will see if i can use the org front wheel and brake master/lever.

l will let you know.

Cheers
