I decided to try a 14 c/s on my 610 to lower the gearing some and it seemed like the easiest option.
After getting my chain issues sorted out I couldn't wait to hit the trails. I did take a couple test runs around my neigborhood streets but couldn't really notice a whole lot of difference aside from the fact third gear wheelies were happening without even trying.
So anyway went up there solo~again, staged at Parker Flat. This is the first time up here this year as it just re-opened. Trails were already getting dry and dusty. I forgot how rocky some of the trails are there.
Not the entire trail but sections of them anyway like 4
and 2.
Well my goal with trying out the 14 sprocket was to make the big ol' 610 a little easier to manage on tight
single track and here's where I can tell the difference.
Before with stock gearing I was having to use first gear
a lot but now I can keep it in second all day long and it just chugs right along through everything. No exageration here, I literally stayed in second almost all day long except when it opened up onto wide open sections. I think this is the perfect setup for me because it's still plenty fast for freeways etc..
Foresthill is a great place to ride with endless trails of
varied difficulties but some of it is just too rocky for me
on this heavy beast. I will say though that trail #5, which is like an 18 mi. loop is an absolute gem. A little
technical in some sections for my taste but it's truly just a phenominal experience to ride. Trail 6, didn't even attempt it. I managed to keep it upright all day and didn't want to jinx that.
I'm not much of a photo guy but I took a couple, I'll
try and post them. Jerry
