• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

For anyone who welded their subframe, what tail light solution did you use???

So I went ahead and welded up my subframe and now I'm wondering what you guys are doing about your rear tail light. With the added angle aluminum on the parcel rack, the standard tail light plastic doesn't fit...so for those who modded the subframe, whats your tail light solution?

My stock tail light bolted right up on my welded subframe. I did have to cut slits in the inner fender to get it to fit over the braces.

I've found the subframe extension has been the weakest link in the system. Good on you exacto for doing something about it.

did you reinforce the parcel rack as well?

Didn't need to. I have the factory luggage rack and it's plenty strong for my needs. My subframe is braced similar to yours, but the braces aren't quite as big. I think I have a pic somewhere....

The DRC Edge 2. Works ok, not too expensive, and easy enough to make a custom bracket and install. I soldered up a molex connector for it, so its quick to disconnect. Already about half the brake LED's have gone dark. I think the vibrations / water crossings etc are hard on circuit boards. I've come to the conclusion that for anything electronic costing under $200, chances are it will probably last one season before breaking.

Here's what I had welded on:

I don't have a picture of the final tail. But see: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/610-tail-tidy.79159/

I'm surprised the drc edge has crapped out. The ufo brand that came with the power up kits lights have worked great for 6 years now. Any possibility of running that instead?
