  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Whats the best way to tighten a flywheel nut, engine wants to spin, maybe impact wrench? Is there a tourqe spec on a 02 cr 250.Thanks for any help.

I will give that a try, thanks.Been doing some reading about the stator and flywheel, does an 02 cr 250 have a woodruff key?If so,what does it look like and where is it located?Sorry for such a newbe question, just first time doing this type of repair.

there are holed tools made specifically for this, but a "spanner" will work
this is a Proto too, I used it to set up Ford 9 inch axle carriers

the key is handy but not mandatory
don't for get to lap the mag to the crank with lapping compound before assembly
if you don't use the key, use a dial indicator to check your timing, well you should use it either way

Another option would be to use CLEAN nylon rope in the cylinder (feed it in through the spark plug hole) to lock the engine up. Just be careful not to get it in the ports.
That's how I do it, works well!

The torque settings for the flywheel are 73.5 to 83.3 Nm OR 54.2 to 61.5 Lb/ft

All the best with it!

I have given up on it,it has beaten me.I have tried a different coil, stator, cdi, plug, killswitch and still no spark. Its going to Halls unless I can sell it cheap!

Sorry to hear that it's been such a nuisance. Must be an earth leak hiding somewhere. I'd buy it but I'm not Stateside at the moment.

If you're working on the engine and have the clutch side case off you can stick a penny in the gears and lock the crankshaft. The penny is soft enough not to damage the gears but it will bend it and it can only be used a couple of times before it's destroyed... then you have the major financial burden of getting another penny.

I like that Motion Pro tool! That's clever! I just used to use a copper washer to jam the primary gear! They are soft & don't damage the teeth. I must admit though, the MP tool looks easier to use! I think I might go buy one!

I've also used a strap wrench on the flywheel side to hold the flywheel as I torqued the nut. I was too lazy to drain the oil and pull the clutch covers. Trick is put her in fifth and have your eighteen y/old hold the back wheel while you hold the strap wrench in one hand and operate the torque wrench with the other.
Despite Sears going the Harbor Freight route lately with the cheapo tools, they still make a decent strap wrench. I also have one I got at ACE, and the strap is flexible like a large rubber band -- it's useless.
