  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FINALLY Clutch issue!!

robertaccio

Husqvarna
Pro Class
today while riding on very hacked out/deep grooved single track trails while following a very relaxed pace (bored) lead rider (ryno),, my clutch started to feel dead at the lever after while it just releases at full pull and grabs at the least bit of release from the handgrip. Will now finally do a complete clutch refurb, 1.6 years @110hours all OEM.
PS I am a clutch user/abuser,,,I use it as a decel slipper clutch and an auto clutch under acceleration (read slip it all the time)

I know you are just reporting the duration of no issues with abuse/use. But I bet if you just bleed it you'll get some more lengthy great hours out of it:thumbsup:

From what I've seen you might get some more lengthy seconds from it. It'd be nice if a quick bleed could fix any problem, but probably not the case.

Is there a difference between Magura on a ktm and one on a husky?

Sorry if my suggestion seemed green- I just haven't had a problem with one on either (ktm/Husky)- buddies have though and on ktms and usually it is solved by getting some new fluid in there which does not have a bubbles. 9/10 comes from running it low and falling- grabbing the clutch and air gets in the line.

I have seen the x rings and new piston- which look like improvements for sure. But have always wondered if the system is different on the Husky's because they reportedly have failures in the systems- requiring new and improved parts.

Yep, the KTM's and Husky's use different clutches. I've not had a KTM apart yet so I'm not sure exactly the differences. I believe gas gas also uses a magura clutch, but their piston design is different from the husky, it has 2 o rings instead of the single on the husky clutches.

Okay~ :thumbsup:thanks for that- I thought it was standardized to include the piston and o ring/s- That makes more sense now- I had always wondered why the husky reportably seemed to have more issues - I have a 2002 Ktm and have not had an issue....yet.

Guess I probably won't wait for the thing to fail and do the piston upgrade as it will save wear the housing (as I understand it). On my 09TE450 I tend to use the clutch alot in the tight stuff....

I'll try and borrow a ktm this week and pull the clutch piston to see exactly what the difference is. Will report back what I find.

GG is using his own cylinder with 2 O-Rings

The Gasgas unit is a AJP

Thanks for the info guys. I was told about the twin orings and just assumed the guy meant it was a magura. :)

just pulled the slave piston, absolutly no wear on the piston or the slave cylinder. the o ring is just flat sided. Fluid is a little dark but thats it. Will put it all back together and hope the clutch itself is ok (it has never slipped, yet. Got x-ring from Up-Tite for re-assy.

well did a complete inspection and disassembly of all components. was ready to install the rebuild kit into the master cylinder,,,,but upon inspection the cylinder is wasted the chrome(nickel) plating is all peeled, bubbled and sharp edged, causing the seals to leak, and for me to see fluid around my lever area. I installed a new clutch, all plates, a new clutch hose is going on ,,,the old one was weeping around the lower banjo crimp which is loose and spinning,, installing a new slave piston 7602 up grade and then comes the big bleed!! Oh yeah I finally removed the clutch safety sw and connected the plugged wires in the under tank area, my habit of clutch pulling will always be there anyway after this long.

most likely will replace the OEM 9.5mm master with a 10.5mm as that is what's available at the moment. If I dont like it I will go back to the 9.5
