  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Fat Bar mounted on 83 XC

Husqvarna
A Class
Found a way to mount 1 1/8 bars on my 83 XC250..I was looking at my parts bike 05 YZ250 and noticed that the applied triple trees on the bike looked very similar to the ones on the husky. I took them off and sure enough the bar mounts worked great in the husky top tree, here is a pic of the set up..I bought the applied trees off ebay for $30 a couple of years ago...

Mattskn,
Great idea also. Did you need to modify the hole diameter in the existing husky triple clamp? Are the handlebar mounts still rubber mounted? The only disadvantage I can see is in the adjustment upward of the forks up in the clamp. I like to run mine about an inch up in the top clamp for tighter steering. Maybe raking the frame as in your other post might take care of this? The fat bars are much better than the old style and will make it look very original. Thanks. Mike

If you take the rubber covers off there is about 3/4 of a inch to play with..Yes the mounts are still rubber gromets. I popped the husky one out and popped the new one in just that simple..Have you messed around with the fork position in the clamps? Im looking for feed back on suspensionn set up.Ive hears the 87 internals with 83 legs are the way to go do you know why...Is there some special dampening in the 87..Is that the last year for the 40mm fork?
.

The way I understand it, the 87 and 88 40mm standard fork internals had a cartidge or valve style damping system with top out springs instead of washers like we have currently. I believe the 88 WR was the last year for the conventional fork. The guy at Husky parts Australia has a modified damping rod and valve set up that he says makes the 40mm husky fork like a modern fork. If I remember, the price would be around $300-350 US dollars for the kit. I run my forks about an inch up in the clamps for tight tracks. It helps the turning but with a modified frame, it is hard to tell where you want them. My forks are 37 inches from the axle center to the top of the tube. I was going to use a set of 83 YZ490 43mm forks and they were 36 inches with the same measurement. The triples would need to be bored 3mm in order to make them fit. I don't really know enough about rake and trail to tell anyone what the best set up is. I just want my husky to turn and handle like a Maico. The Ohlins are sweet and the forks so so. Please share any thoughts on this.

Mike

There is a set of 87 forks on EBAY and I was thinking about getting them, there $50 buy it now..

Is there a rubber insert from another bike that swaps in well? The original husky part is getting hard to find.

Thanks! I guess what I was asking is whether the actual rubber cones are Yamaha pieces or Applied pieces? I'm probably going to keep the 7/8" husky bar mount but need new rubber pieces, and the husky rubber inserts are hard to find and/or expensive. Thanks again.

Hey Picklito.
I just ordered a set of handlebar rubbers from a guy named Gerald in Mich.

He also sell new brake rods and peg springs, i bought all 3.
