  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Euro or US TE449/511

Ok, Since my '09 TE450 was stolen from my garage last week, I've been looking at a replacement. I took a trip to my Husky dealer on the weekend, and he was saying that there is a shortage of TE449's so they have been sourcing them from wherever they can. Usually they would stock the Euro bikes obviously changed in spec for the Australian market, and the US models they had were also spec to the Australian market i.e. no pollution gear.

Both have had a Australian developed ECU map flashed (the same on both models I was told by the shop owner)

Now, there are a couple of small differences with the Euro an US bikes i noticed.

Euro - Smaller indicator stalks, and the baffle in the stock exhaust pipe was welded in (non removable).
US - Longer indicator stalks, extra bit of fuel tank on the left side, and three screws in the baffle which indicates to me it can be removed.

Apart from those I listed, are there any other differences, and in the real world which one should I go for?

Oh, and for AU$500 difference in the price of a 449 and 511, is there really that much difference? I have ridden a mates 511 ('11 model I think) and it felt (power wise) much the same as my '09 450.

Thoughts?

Smaller indicator controls are on the MY13+ models. Otherwise everything is the same except for the smog controls which can be swapped out easily. FMF makes the premier exhaust for the bike which can be imported to AUS cheaper than Akro, combined with the map upgrade will produce much higher power than what was available on the MY09 TE450.
