Our KTM/Husky dealer decided the profit margin on his multi-line dealership just wasn't worth the heartache, so they closed a few months ago before I could get my 501 to install the EU map. The bike isn't terrible but I can feel it is lean on the bottom and from the gazillion posts scattered on the forums, a handful of which are probably knowledgeable, it appears the EU will make the bike run a little cooler and better off the bottom, I know my 690 ran better after installing the Acro map (richer) but I had a LV can and open air box. I did open the stock tip and may open the air box a bit on my 2015 501. I was pretty glad the Husky dealership was picked up by a independent mixed line shop in town. I called and asked if they could re-map my bike - sure, as soon as we get trained on the factory equipment. Okay, a little nervous, but okay, call me. A few weeks go by and I stop in and chat with the service writer - uhm, still waiting for the rep to walk us through the equipment. Gulp, okay, call me when that happens, Ten days later I call, talk to service and the dude tells me they can do it but their rep told them it makes the bike worse. So I ask why - get the huh kinda response ...because the rep said so and all the forums are wrong kind of answer, but if I want to do it they will install it. Now that instills confidence.
I do know the manager of another shop 100 miles north that also owns the KTM point and he said they will take care of me but they want the bike - not unreasonable or Munn's said they will do if I send the ECU in.
What a pain. Just wondering how many serious off-road riders have remapped and can seriously say it improved the bike AND how many did it sending out the ECU or at a local/reputable dealer. This has turned into a circus. I hate to burn half a day and a few hundred miles to go where I know the GM of a BMW dealer who will make sure the KTM side takes care of me but I'd like to be confident the map actually installs.
I'd welcome any others first hand experience/thoughts on this topic. I'm pretty much over the idea of testing out the new dealership.
