• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Engine Mounting Plates - 3 hole or 4?

Greasyrider

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have a 1975 250 CR Mag. The engine I have has 2 mounting bosses in the front and the frame has 2 mounting holes on the downtube. However, the engine mounting plates on the front have only 3 holes - I figure 2 go to the frame and one to the top engine mount. Why doesn't my bike have a 4 hole plate like some of the other models? It seems like it would be a more solid mount. I don't think my bike has had any changes in mounting plates - I bought the bike in 1979 when the bike was only 4 years old. Any thoughts?

What is the number on the motor cases tag and are using a MK or ML series frame?

The 360CR as I recall had one bolt on the front of the engine. The 1975 250 CR has the ML frame with the laydown shocks. Only a 1975 WR will have the 1974 MAG frame

My frame number is ML 02864 and definitely has the laydown shocks. But for the life of me I can't find an engine number. Should be a riveted tag above the CS sprocket from what I have read, but there is no tag. Is it possible that Husky made several different cases for the '75 CR 250?

The bike did have transmission issues when I bought it - could it have been upgraded to a '77 bottom end?

I bet your right - the cases are definitely 77 or later. Would also explain why there is no motor number tag. Replacement cases sometimes did not come with tags.

Well, mystery solved! Guess she'll never go to a museum without "matching numbers", but I never plan on selling her anyway. A 1977 case would be most likely, since I bought the bike in 1979. Thanks for your help Vinskord, and any chance you would want to sell those engine plates in the picture?

Glad the 'mystery' is solved. I had a similar situation recently that took a while to figure out.

Pulled the pic of the mounting plates off the 'popular online action site'. See them for around $20 to $25.

I bought a set of engine mounting plates for a 79-80 CR on eBay, but the mounting holes were just a little too far off. Husky John, do you still have a set I could purchase from you? They must need to be for a 77-78.
