• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

EarthX vs. Lead Acid: Photo Evidence

EarthX battery arrived today. First thing I did was remove the stock unit and then weigh the batteries for comparison. I'm not a weight freak, but it's interesting how much lighter the new unit is compared to the old. Also more powerful with much longer lifespan, supposedly.

What I liked most about the new battery is that it uses bolts that thread into the fittings to attach wires. There's no nut that can get lost. I've lost those little nuts before on another bike and had to make something up. These are also larger diameter. I needed to drill a couple of connectors just a tad larger in diameter, but that was all.

The battery is a little smaller in length and width, but the same height. Used the foam padding that came with to install. Very nice setup.

2077 grams is 4.579 pounds. It's also 73.264 ounces. Or 0.32707 stones.

585 grams is 1.2897 pounds. It's also 20.635 ounces. Or 0.092122 stones.

Finally, the fit in the battery compartment on my TE511, below. Very happy with this upgrade and never have to worry about lead and acid going down the road. Not that it matters all that much in the broad scope of things, but for me, it's another part of the cool factor for this bike.

- A good tip to keep the nuts in the battery, poke a foam earplug in the terminal under the nut & let the foam expand around it. When you undo the terminals, the nuts stay put in there.

A huge difference in cranking amps 220 vs 130 with the Lithium batteries too!

Lighter AND better

This is the SSB battery I found over here in Aus. and fitted to my TE449.
Same 220cca as the EarthX, slightly heavier (From memory) at 600gr.
It also comes with foam blocks to space it up to the lead acid size for the battery box.

+1 ive used the ssb LiIon Units before. Much higher crank power/amps. They seem to hold their charge on the shelf and on standby much longer too.

I don't know if I imagined it being lighter because I knew, or it actually was feeling different. :)
The main thing you WILL notice is great starting.
So much more punch from the starter!
