  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Earth X battery save the day!

Husqvarna

Long story short. Bike had trouble starting hot. Checked components, wiring, installed heavier wire for
My own peace of mind. Amp clamp showed it pulling high amps cranking when hot the circuit opening up
Before bike would start. Decided to do one thing at a time because it was impossible to pin point with it
Opening up so quickly, bought the earth x battery for a place to start even though battery tested good.
So, bike spins over and starts hot or cold just fine. Earth X shipped to my house in 48 hrs., bike is almost
3 pds. Lighter, and I am a happy camper. Woo Hoo!

When the starters magnets get hot as the engine heats up it does rob more cranking amps Due to the hot starter motor.. Makes sense to me the more powerful battery works better .

Which battery did you get? Does it fit well?

my second hand 449 was a pig to start today(first day i have had it) seems battery may be duff as slow crank when bike is cold and real pain to start when bike is hot. i presume the bike you bought the battery for was a 511?

Had the same issues. Now I always engage the decompression lever until it starts turning over, let the lever go and fires right up. Never any issues with the battery now.

hi there check the connections on our starter motor. my bike cranks real well now ive taken them off and cleaned them. will still prbably get a lithium battery though.

We sell the Earthx battery and offer 10% off for CH members. Stock battery is 6Ah, earthx is 12Ah and 1.3lbs. When I installed mine, I charged with a normal battery charger at 1.5amps for 5 minutes. Works great and starts my 511 when hot which the stock battery had trouble doing.

2012 TE310 starting issues.
So after resetting exhaust valve with the decompression gizzy to the tighter value, and installing a Shorai lithium-iron battery, I still get an occasional e-button failure to turn over. So I use the kick, it seems to me it is on the compression stroke, kick it over, starts immediately. My thought is that occasionally the motor stops on the compression stroke; that even in neutral the e start doesn't have the necessary oomph, which suggests that the decompression spring is unable to do its job, and that kicking it off compression solves the problem. So my engineering question is, can engine come to a stop on compression stroke in such a way that decompression device can not function? If so, the easy approach is to kick, then start by kicking or e start. Not a big deal. Or are there other design/production issues? My guess is that the design of the decompression device is such that at certain rotational positions it is ineffective. Reactions?

the next time you have the problem try tapping the starter motor with something while hitting the starter button,my bike has been showing real bad starting ,it ain't the battery but appears to be a sticking brush in the starter motor. going to pull it off this week and dismantle it. will get back to you with results.

Hey Tinken, do you guys ship to Australia, I am trying to source a EarthX battery here and they cost about $240.

just for an update on my bad starting ,pulled the starter motor off the bike, which is a pain of a job,had to take all the engine bolts out and push the engine to one side, exhast had to be slackend and sub tank. once off and taken appart brush on positive was worn to its limits. found a quad dealer who has brush servive kits for these motors for £30.00 . kit fitted and once back together fires up all the time hot or cold. and no more tapping the starter motor! yippeeee!
