• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

[/IMG] Hello, well I am trying to insert a Photo and hope it made it. What I have is a couple of swing arm shock set ups and I am trying to piece them together. The upper rusty white one is for sure an 84 250 WR. The Lower one is silver in color, doesn't have a brake stay and should be an 82 or so CR Swing arm.
So what I want to know is can I use the CR Swing Arm that was pre ITC on a 84 ITC Frame using ITC Shocks. The upper Mounts sure moved but did the bottoms ? What I am trying to do is convert the suspension to full travel CR Specs.
I was also surprised to see that the 84 WR has Betor ITC and not Ohlins. The Ohlins in the Pic are some I picked up on e-bay and I assume they are 83's and are fresh rebuilds from WER and I had Drew set them up for full length which they were all ready. ( they were Blue when I got them, I changed the color ) I was also surprised to see the 84 ITC shocks are the same full length, and not shorter. This bike is a very little used WR with the original Tires still on it, Short Fork Legs.
So, once again will I be OK using the Longer CR swing arm on the WR Frame to convert it into a CR. I'm going to say no, it won't work. The shock mounts are further from the Swing Pivot point, which is going to lower the Bike. The Swing arm is a bit longer, but not nearly enough to get it back up to CR height.

Maybe you could add a one inch spacer on the bottom of the shocks , or just have a shop move the mounts . (some one that knows what the hell there doing)

Some of the bikes had Betor shocks, I thought perhaps 125 ones on has to be careful when buying parts it is too easy to think you have found what you want. In your case they came on a bike I understand. The ITC has the top and bottom shock mount equidistant from the pivot. That is the way to avoid the opposite of progressive. There has been some of the origional advertising material posted on here in the past.

I understand there is a spacer inside the itc shock for the wr version. Are you saying the length of the wr vs xc/cr is the same?

You want the cr brake plate I assume. You have the attachment point on the frame for the rod? What is wrong with an 83 or 84 xc swingarm if you can't (or until) find a cr one?

Both sets of Shocks I have are 18.5 " eye to eye. I understand that the WR had shorter shocks than the XC-CR, done with a spacer installed with in. But this must not be the case with the ITC WR's. Unless there are longer ITC's than 18.5". My goal is to make the bike an air cooled CR, to race Vintage MX. To be more exact, I want to make a replica of the 1982 Works bike that used the ITC's before they made production. Yes I do have a set of full travel Forks to go with the CR style Rear. No I don't have the CR Brake Tab on the Frame yet, but its in the plan.
So this leads one to wonder just how the ITC WR's got a shorter ride height, it must all be done in the swing arm itself. As I like to do fabrication as a hobby, I might end up cutting the Swing Arm and lengthen it. But which one ? The works bike it self had a section added to the Swing Arm between the pivot point and the shock mount. As Husqvarna's have always been known for there high speed stability and the 83 era frames changed the rake to improve turning it makes one wonder why the works bike had the swing arm lengthened ? Was it they had the same issue I have now and didn't have a pre production Arm so they just made one ? I could Cut the WR Arm behind the Shock mount or cut the CR arm a head of the Shock mount. Both would do the same thing. However I'm not going to do either until I get some dementions on the 83-4 arm and or just find one to use.

For what ever it is worth Works Performance Shocks web sight is listing the WR ITC shocks as 18" and the CR at 18.5". My WR however is 18.5". It would be better to lengthen the pre ITC Arm ahead of the Shock Mount as the Arm is round and it would be easy to make a section on a Lathe. Does anybody have an 83-4 CR Arm I could get some dementions from ? Or for sale ?
