  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

e start 2012 te310

Folks-
The question is whether e start in gear is just not to be expected. Easy to start in neutral, exhaust valve adjusted to tight spec, Mobil 1 0w-40, little to no clutch drag when in gear with clutch disengaged. Shorai lithium iron battery fully charged. But it will not e start in gear.
Thoughts, comments?
Thanks, Phil

My 2012 TE310 doesn't enjoy being started in gear if the engine is cold or really hot (think single track in summer). If I am running in very tight snotty single track and stall the engine, it doesn't like to restart and stay running in gear with the clutch in. When mine is cold and I start it in gear I feel the bike lerch a bit with the clutch it but it usually stays running. I try to restart in neutral if time allows. Sometimes when I run the enduro races I am pressed for time so anything goes then... I also run the 0w40 and it does help a bit but doesn't eliminate the issue. My plan is to add a Rekluse this Christmas.

I am still running the original stock plug, which looked fine recently. Cannot tell you what it actually is. I have an iridium NGK CR9EIX over 3521 on hand, purchased from my local dealer, as a replacement. 719 miles on bike.

Tinken, on the oil return line mod I have previously mentioned, I went to a 5/16th by 1/2 inch clear tube, about 28 inches long, secured to the left bottom frame rail by the 2 existing flexible tabs, plugged with a bolt and hose clamp. It is accumulating the same type of "spooge" which accumulated in my Honda Trail 90 tube (the first real dual sport).

I can live with this starting issue, if need be. What really transformed its performance is the 12 port injector and TXC ecu. I adjusted the mechanical throttle stop a bit, but no new I-beat or tps tinkering. At 62 and new to motorcycles, I am not pounding this machine.

The CR9EIX should be installed and the oem discontinued. The oil return mod is coming tomorrow or Monday.
