• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Drive shaft question 390 CR 1980 (I think?)

A Class
I have recently bought a 390 CR and lots of spares. The output shaft in the engine on the bike, emerges from the bearing with only the splines visible - no smooth surface for a seal to mate with. When I consult the parts diagram, I notice there is no seal in the flange, only what is described as a 'distance ring' part # 16 12 353-01. In my spares, I have found a plastic ring, a little smaller in outside diameter to the internal flange diameter. There is no way this is going to make a seal that stops the gearbox oil escaping and the water and dirt from getting in. Can somebody help? Is the wrong output shaft in the engine?

You have the beginning of the tranny upgrade that husqvarna did at the factory. The engine cases started evolving to the newer 82/83 case as we know it. My '81 cr250 had the same setup as yours. It's the few years of the evolution of the engine cases.

The distance ring is the plastic spacer.

On the output shaft bearing the bearing had a seal on one side of it. The plastic ring is a spacer. There's no seal there but on the bearing races. Your outer seal on the bearing is missing.

I noticed these seals on the output shaft bearing would have running seepage from wear and Mark the spot on the garage floor. The area on the tranny would be wet too. When the seal is still present I would silicone the spline on the spacer. It would cut down on the leakage.

Now the HVA offers a end cap flange with a seal and spacer to stop this seepage.

Click on the, engine/clutch/tranny. Section.

On the second page it's the;

80-88 eng brg counter shaft

There's a pic of the bearing out put side.

Thanks for the information. I just phoned Andy at HVA-Factory and collected one from him in person. Excellent :). Now let's see how she I get on with her racing this Sunday :D.

Ohh, if Craig doesn't, then there are several of us who will :D

With the entry on Sunday it will be an awesome meeting. Hopefully Craig will have some on-board footage !
