  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Dodgy head orings?

Ahh good news everybody(Dr Nick Riviera). New orings in the other day n last day before I gotta go back to work so went for a strap on the 3 hunge this mornin(Monday am be mad not too!). No lost coolant yay! Purposely overfilled rad so it could settle itself n it did jus that-engine cold n she 10mm over the fins. Reasonably warm n deep sand so punished her for 25 clicks to really make sure she was hot! All is well in the world again ;)

Cheers

Daats good nooews Dr. Neeck.

:)FYI, I had a cylinder base gasket do the same thing on my 2013 WR300. Losing coolant and white smoke.
Glad you got it sorted.

Cheers,
Coyote

Coyote was that the oem gasket or had u recently rebuilt top end?

Think I'm gonna order a new rad cap too. $29 so cheap enough. Old one feels bit sloppy/loose fit n not sure if it's workin 100%. Lost a small amount of coolant on a near rear brake boiling single track last weekend(2nd gear corner to corner through the trees multiple laps-she was warm!!!). Only jus level/slightly under fins so maybe 60-80ml. Coulda bn from dropping it mułtiple times n tryin to get up ridiculous hills too:)

Take Two-:confused:Getting worried and suspicious now--a day after I purchased my WR300, I had the white smoke , losing coolant issue. I then sent the bike back to the seller, who claimed "it was a leaking base gasket". The fault was cleared when I got the bike back, and now is playing up again with similar symptoms. I had a look now at a cylinder and there does not seem to be any cooling ports at the bottom.
I wonder if I am sitting with a hair line crack and the "temporary fix" is no longer working?.
It definitely was NOT the head 'O' rings as I replaced them with new ones myself.

Cheers,
COYOTE

If you do a lot of slow , technical riding I suggest you switch to waterless coolant. It does not expand like water and also boils at 180 degrees C.
Here in SA we buy Evans coolant, I know overseas there are motorcycle coolants that are waterless.
To change the coolant it is a two step process-flush the old coolant out with an special fluid they sell, and then fill with the new coolant. It is non toxic as well.
