• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Diagnostics using an Android Phone + Bluetooth

AA Class
Today I successfully achieved the ability to read and reset error codes, perform service resets and fuelling adaptations, all the same as a GS911 tool, but for a fraction of the cost.

Using a specific Bluetooth OBD2 Adapter with an ICOM D Cable and an App on my phone, I can now do everything I used to use Rheingold ISTA/D for, but now much more mobile as it is on the Phone and not the laptop.

$125 well spent = One Happy Bunny !!

OK guys, apart from the GS 911 I know there is also the DUONIX piece of kit that can also do everything for the bikes. (www.duonix.de)

However, I was recommended an App for Android called MOTOSCAN as it is very much cheaper and works just as well.
Downloaded the Lite version for free then set about finding a suitable Bluetooth Adapter with cable for the bike.
The cable is simple, just search eBay for ICOM D cable and there are plenty to choose from, mine cos $10.
Bluetooth adapter is a different story and I went through several cheap ones before I found one that can do everything.
Having checked the Lite version of MOTOSCAN can indeed handle the TR650 and my Nuda I purchased the ULTIMATE licence at $44
The cheap BT Adapters can communicate and read the bike but they cannot handle the long text protocol that BMW requires to perform the resets of fueling adaptations etc.
The one that works with all functions is Scantool 427201 OBDLink Bluetooth and is on Amazon at $63

So there you have it, total outlay of $117 gives me the perfect mobile solution to diagnosing and setting up the bike.
Understand that because Apple products cannot communicate by Bluetooth properly, MOTOSCAN is Android only.
For Apple there is a similar App called Carly but I have no idea if it works or not.

Thank you, this is great. I really like the bike after the update but was not happy with all I had to go through to get to this point. And the thought of having to count on KTM/Husky for further support makes me feel ill.

Ozzie buyers thinking of ordering from Amazon Australia, beware the seller SJJD on Amazon Australia website advertises as "Ships from Australia". I ordered and later received an email advising the item has been shipped and in small print "Your item(s) are being sent by China Post". I have raised the misleading advertising with Amazon Australia.

The clone ICOM D cables available on EBay have very poor quality clone Kostal 10 pin connectors which break up quickly, some also have the wrong pin outs so do not actually work, since they are epoxy sealed the pin out cannot be corrected so they are not recommended, the choice on the adaptor cables is either the wgsoft adaptor cable or the adaptor cables which Hexcode are now introducing as part of the introduction of the new 16 pin GS911 models

Well I must have struck lucky because I have three cheap cables and they all work well. :-)

I am away from the bike at the moment. Let me get back home and play around some more then send some screenshots etc.

Thanks Mark_H looking forward to it.

Is important for everyone to know if your looking at this system, that the "lite" version has limited in functionality. As a group we need to explain this functionality so we understand what can be done and what needs to be done...as there are a lot of ideas and wants and these cant always be met.

Correct, the LITE version is purely for evaluation it has almost zero functionality. I went right in and purchased the ULTIMATE version in order to be able to do everything possible. The guy who wrote the software also gives unlimited free troubleshooting advice and updates to purchasers.
