  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Desert tank for fc450?

A Class
Does anyone know when/if a 3 gallon or so tank is available for the fc 450 yet? Who's making the factory guys' tanks??

I searched and couldn't find anything specifically for it. I'd give Zip-Ty a call.

Not a jab at KTM since they don't have control over it but it seems crazy that you can't get an aftermarket part for these. You would think since KTM makes it every company would jump on it immediately.

nobody gets it......reality check on the cost for XYZ to design, build a mold and manufacture an oversize tank for a bike like the FC450......to sell 30 of them, numbers dont add up.... WR450 Yamaha, CRF450X Honda different story. make sense?
Our bikes are on the mix and match side of things, XC chassis with Hberg plastic and more so although common with KTM they are seperate small brand layouts. XYZ probably will eventually build tanks....when the numbers start to make sense along with the demand.
As well as sometimes the cost to the mfgr is offset by some of the teams funding the R&D and mold costs to satisfy their race team demands/needs.

last time i checked the entire op was a 20-25k venture, you need to sell alot of tanks to get good roi on that production run. PS this was for a complete custom job, low production run.

Yeah I get all that. The surprising part to me is more with KTM's offroad presence I would have thought they'd be all over it before there was even a market. I would have assumed they'd sell really well. Even Sherco's got big tanks, can't imagine their market being bigger.

Anyway, I was sifting through some old threads and the prototype 449 came up. 30 pages of bmw's leftover engines and that they looked to much like KTM's lol. After reading all of that I'm officially done complaining about these white KTM's :)

I planned on buying a TE tank off a 2013 Husaberg from bergparts.com I'm pretty positive that it would fit as all the plastics say Husaberg on them.

if you don't want to mount the 4.1 that I've used just use the 3 gl made for the KTM from Acerbis. You will have to run KTM tank shrouds however.

You could run an OEM FE501 tank. It will give you about half a gallon more than the stock tank on your FC450. It would also give you a slim feel and use your existing shrouds. Should bolt up with no issues.

IMS products is getting close to having a bigger tank! They where testing it in BAJA ON Alex Smiths bikeimage.jpg
