• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I just found this and thought WOW, this thing is going to be awesome! I have their first gen. PN-20 and like it alot, even though its rather slow on the draw. I plan to upgrade to another DeLORME sometime. The SPOT tracker has always looked good but the lack of messaging capabilities is a bummer. This new PN-60 with SPOT looks to be a winner! Being able to text messages from anywhere, excellent! It's not cheap, but I see it on Amazon for $550.

Lets hope they get the Federal Communications Commission authorization in the disclaimer.

edit: I see the msrp for $700 @ DeLORME and $550 @ SPOT?

I can't decide if I want SPOT or not...yet another annual subscription fee, but it sure is a cool system.

A PN-60 is on my list for sure, can't make up my mind on the SPOT or not yet though.

My favorite multi-use GPS was Lowrance because of the pile of features they had compared to many others. I still have an iWay H2O that is running, but my old iWay 500c died (was too heavy for offroad bike use/vibration). They sold though and away went the outstanding customer service and the innovative models they used to have.

I think Delorme is the new Lowrance for me. Would be awesome if they made a bit larger screen model closer to a Nuvi or Zumo with a reflective TFT display for sunlight.

I have a Nuvi for my car now, but I intensely dislike how locked down Garmin is with it's licensing. Hell the model I have won't even sort the favorites list alphabetically as that was an 'option' unlocked only in higher priced models. That's usurious to me, it's a ten line code change they want another $50 for.

Amazon has the PN-60 with Spot on pre-order at $549.95, just remember SPOT requires an annual subscription fee.
