• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Decoding Map Switch Position

Captain Kirk

Husqvarna
AA Class
Trying to figure out which position is which on the OEM dealer installed switch. Looking down on the handlebar switch from above, the thumb post can be in the 6 o'clock position and then can be rotated clockwise to the 7 o'clock position. Which position is what?

Then no since worrying about it then?
Just go ride and keep trying it. as if you get somewhere it is very slick and snotty then try and see if it makes it easier.
Later George

There should be I and II positions on the switch. I is performance and II is soft.
Thank you! Finally decided to call the dealer and they were struggling a bit to tell me the answer, but they figured it out last night. Turns out there really is a detectable power difference in the two positions....or maybe it's the placebo effect. Thanks again.

The ignition advance curve switch is an intelligence test.

One position works very well, the other doesn't.

Now I understand why I failed it so many times. I will say this, on the 570, when switched from mild to wild, the bike transforms. No so in the case of the 300, at least not to the same extent.

The change is subtle, but take it out on the worst snotty day you can find and you'll feel the difference...

The change is extremely noticeable on my TC250 - position one sucks and the bike feels like it's out of gas until it's into the overrev zone, position two rocks and pulls hard from bottom to top.

Last guy says position 2 rocks and other poster says 1 rocks and 2 soft. Guy that had desler figure it out never confirmed a thing?? So..... Know one really still knows?

Position 1 is the more aggressive. I can tell a difference but it is not a night and day difference. Position 2 smothes the throttle response and is helpful when the going gets tougher. You should be able to feel.the diff in more technical riding. Map switch came standard with my 2016 though was not installed when I picked it up for whatever reason. Very simple to put on. Nice to have a bit of tuneability on the fly.

My dealer said on the 4 strokes the difference is much greater as compare to the 2 stokes

The switch really isn't needed. If you want to bypass the switch, just plug the connectors together under the tank. It would be an easy way to know what does what in regards to "feel"

Lots of threads about this on the KTM forums too.

I shut bike down and switch then restart. Still cant tell if there is a difference, this bike has alot of power anyway really

UPDATE

I've received a few funny, non-helpful comments (really enjoyed them though), and a few PM's so I thought I'd just update. Now that I have the Lectron carb dialed in, there is a very detectable difference in terms of motor behavior. Position II as it is marked, is definitely the power position and combined with the clean snap of the Lectron and the power delivery of the Gnarly, the bike is a true tight trail weapon. FWIW - went to a 48 rear sprocket as the power is able to carry it and it gives the bike more legs.

Shows I really don't know what I am talking about, I was sure that I could feel slightly softer power deliver in the II position!
Placebo effect in full force, but I guess it also goes to show that there is not much difference to be felt, at lease the way mine is set up (no lectron, basically stock).
