  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Decisions: Rebuild Motor or new bike

My 2008 TE-510 now has 5,000 miles. How long should I expect before a rebuild I will have farm out (how much should I expect to pay for this).

Has anyone had a balance shaft added to thier TE motor from the SM?

Given the programs on the current TE's hard to pass up. Considering a TE-449/511

Hard to say on a rebuild. Many variables. Maintenance and care schedules, type and severity of riding, luck
On the build. Hard to pass up the deals right now on the new TE's. Love my 2012 511,
I have to pass on the balancer, no knowledge.

I have almost 14,000 miles on my 2010 TE 450, how much time do you spend at high RPMs?

I think these bikes need attention at the big end, and splitting the cases and replacing all bearings runs about $1500 minimum.

I too am an Older Husky Rider (53) but I do like to open it up when I can. Hard to say how much time at high revs, but most of my time is spent on the dual sport trails in Michigan. No racing, but over the years quite a few 250+miles days over four day periods. Been riding my -630 lately but took my -510 up north this past weekend and as my kids would say "OMG"
