  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

DB Killer

What's the difference in running the power up kit DB Killer vs. the oem insert? Does the DB Killer still have a spark arrester in it? Does it change the power? I have all the required mods done to my TE310 except the DB Killer. Wondering if I need it compared to the oem insert. Any thoughts?

The db killer that came with my power up kit is sitting on a shelf in garage. I tried it once, it did make the bike a bit quieter, but unfortunately, can not be used along with the spark arrester, so you have to choose, quiet bike or protecting the woods from stray sparks. The spark arrester is required here in MI to ride on public ORV trails and for some enduros. Most enduros also have a sound check, which my bike passes without the db killer, so unless noise is a real problem the db killer isn't really needed. My bike is a 2012 TE250 but sounds about the same as the 310.

I thought the actual inside dia of the EU dB killer (8000 H0827) and US/CDN S/A version (8000 B1306) are the same insert but our US/CDN version just has the S/A screen attached. PS I just leave mine in all the time (8000 B1306 S/A-dB plug)

This is what came in my kit, part # 8000H7303, hollow tube no screen. The insert with the spark screen that came with the bike has a much shorter tube part. I don't have the part #. I'll have to check into this other one since it would be nice to be as quiet as possible AND have the screen.

I don't use either, buurrrr bur bur burP :excuseme:

I have a 2010 TE 250 - while I initially had the SA in - eventually one of the local mechanics told me it was loose and came out when I was riding. I know that wasn't true and they kept it during a maitenence check (maybe through failed communication). But alas, I no longer have it and with the JD Tuner it never flames out.

As far as power differences, I think there is subtle more power in the higher rev ranges without the SA and slightly louder, but it was loud in my opinioin with the SA in (I've heard the SA silences it as much as the db killer). The things that really restricts these TE bikes off the shelf the most is the catalyic converter and airbox lid.
