• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Thanks. Im a bit unsure about 'hogging' this thread. Obviously its something im passionate about, but its not my dakar and i dont want to clog it up.

Plus--there are a couple guys on here who know a lot more about Dakar than i do, and i am aware that i might be in some way keeping them away.

If Mr. Hardin,. Mr Walsh and company want to jump in, it would be an honor to share a string with that level of understanding and achievement of this incredible event. :)

I don't think you're "hogging" this thread at all (what a funny word!) but I welcome any and all conversation from those that have first-hand knowledge! It's something that 99% of us will never get to do, and I, for one, really enjoy hearing about all the stuff that doesn't make it to the official Dakar website or the TV coverage. I've sat through a few slide shows and Q & A sessions with Dakar finishers before and it never ceases to fascinate me.

Unfortunately Jonah fell in this stage & hurt his wrist a bit. Hope he's okay & it's not too bad.

Damn, Jonah's out, hand hurts too much, can't hold on to the handlebars.
You gave them hell Jonah & showed you're a force to be respected.

Yes, a huge dissappointment for Street. He's had to have caught the eye of the factory with the rid he's put in.
Overall this rALLY IS QUITE A RACE. wHEN i FIRST HEARD IT WAS MOVING CONTINENTS i THOUGHT THAT NOTHING COULD COMPARE TO aFRICA BUT THIS LOCATION HAS PROVED TO BE AWESOME.

:smashpc: dAMN cAP LOCK!!! :banghead:

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The terrain is beautiful and looks to be quite challenging in spots. It's a bit bizarre, though, that the rallye is still called "Dakar" but I guess the name recognition is worth a lot in terms of money and panache. Kinda like, I dunno...I'm going to race the Suzuka 8 Hour...at Assen. Or the 24 Hours of Glen Helen at Hangtown.:excuseme:

How fast fortunes can change in racing. Bravo to Street for his great ride!
I am now rooting for Fretigne on the WR450!! and always for Peterhansel in cars now.

I missed the 2nd part - Jonah is completely out of the race?

Any links to updates about him like a blog or something?
