  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Custom map on the 511 SMR

After running with the generously supplied maps from ZIPTY RACING I thought it was time to get a custom map for my 511 SMR. It's currently running these mods TC airbox lid, cooler spark plug, 0-40 Mobil one, arrow exhaust from a 510, ZIPTY breather kit/tank, quick action throttle and a PCV.

I took it to HM racing as they are well known for tuning and racing huskys.

It took them 2 .5 hours to create the custom map and originally I was disappointed with the final figures but as soon as I rode it I couldn't of been happier. Throttle response is so crisp, the mid range torque is a lot stronger than before and it also doesn't spit as much when you roll off the throttle.

Yes mate power commander 5 or PCV as it's also known. If you went from map2 to Pcv with a custom map you would think your riding another bike!

I know the rear is a 43T and I suspect the front is standard but not sure on T count.

You are geared considerably higher than say a TE511 which has 15/51s. Your hp rating would probably be closer to 52 hp in comparison.

When you ride, do you ever feel these two power bands? They are very pronounced (and annoying) on my 511 when I am not running my resonator. The green line represents the tuned power line you would normally have with the resonator.

Tinken, I will be mindful next time I ride and come back to you on your question. When you say resonator do you mean exhaust db killer?

Sounds like an excellent reason for me to splurge more money on a resonated full system ;)

Shame ZIPTY racing dont make resonated headers for the 449/511.

I just picked up a 2012 TE511, have not ridden it yet due to 4 feet of snow here in northern British Columbia. The bike is new (old stock) with zero km's on it. I've been following some discussions around how to address some of the flame out short comings with this bike. Since I've not been on the bike I' just trying to get ahead of the curve with solutions for potential problems.

Today I installed the supplied Akrapovic muffler, removed the o2 sensor and power up plug, things starts and runs no issue at this time. Since I know I will be looking for more power and performance I'm considering a PC5 and am wondering of your experience and feedback.

Thanks for any thoughts.

That last post was suppose to say "installed the supplied Akrapovic muffler, removed the o2 sensor and installed the power up plug"

Without a doubt I would buy the PCV, I met up with a member off this forum on the weekend and he has the same as you but with RACEMAP 3 installed. We swapped bikes and the difference is apparent as soon as you move away.

Once the pcv is installed the throttle response is crisp and instant, the torque will leave you smiling from ear to ear (or you will flip the bike if your not careful) its a totally different bike! I have changed the end can so its not the supplied Akra but an arrow end can bastidiesed to fit on my bike.

Do it you wont regret it.

Im afraid I couldnt feel the power bands you highlighted above but its good to know that getting a header bomb will give more mid range.

Yes, I can confirm that PCV and tinkens re circulation kit make your bike as smooth as silk with quite a bit more midrange/top end.
I wish I had the funds to upgrade mine :(
However on a £/hp basis, an Akra end can and Map 3 is still a pretty effective first step.

Is map 3 an ECU re-flash? if so how is this accomplished?

Also, when you use the PCV did you download the map off the Power Commander website or did you do some dyno tuning?

Is the tinkens recirculation kit worth some power or is it strictly for oil vapor control?

Newbie questions, thanks for your thoughts.

Map 3 is obtainable via a dealer or you can send it to ZIPTY racing to get it flashed.

ZIPTY have generously provided some race maps for the PCV. I used their map which was excellent but then had a custom map made for my bike which better suited the extras I had installed.

Another option would be a PCV + Auto Tune and let it create it's own map as you ride. The ZipTy map worked good on my 511 as well. I think it was the Burson Ballistic map also the ignition map.

Thanks for your information, I talked to the guys as Zip-Ty today and pulled the ECU for shipping. For $40 I'll start there and spring for the PCV down the road.

My oil recirculation kit is not for an increase in power, it's to keep oil out of your filter and in your engine. I am working on a resonator system to increase power in the low-mid range which will be placed on the header.
