• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Creative temporary lighting on TXC - Old Dodge headlght?

So I want to ride in a night poker run at our Loretta Lynn Annual Spring ride. Trouble is... I don't have a headlight! They allow creative lighting and actually give away a prize for the most... ahem... "creative"....

So I figure I can probably figure out something. I have this old Dodge Ram headlight lens and a 9004 bulb lying around... I figure I can mount this up without too much trouble, but the issue is getting power to it. Can my stator run something like this?

My fall back plan is to duct tape a 4 D cell maglite to my front fender. Either way, I will also be gluing a couple of maglite 2A mounts to an old helmet and sticking them on there.

Get yourself a Trailtech MR16 helmet light. Can keep it to work with any bike, is an amazing light and all you need for trail stuff. In the open you would need more for speed but the single light is better than most headlights on bikes.

that's a cool light, but this is more-or-less a one time deal. There aren't night riding opportunities around here. This is actually the first opportunity I've ever had. I was thinking more along the lines of cobbling together something just for the fun of it and getting to play with some buds.

Maybe head down to the local camping store and check out some of the head lamps. I have used one of these for night rides before. It is not ideal, but certainly better than a mag lite taped to the fender.

20$ home depot 1 million candle power lamp taped to fender. follow up with more little ones all over the place for a flood beam.

used to ride dunes on my '77 maico 440 with cheapo flashlights taped all over me and the bike....took a few minutes to turn them all on and off etc...kinda funny.
