  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

crashed damaged radiator and fan???

Husqvarna
I have a 2012 te 511. Crashed today and bent the radiator and broke the fan. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am not very mechanical. I ride about 99% in the dirt, do I need to have that fan on the bike. I understand the reason of a fan but I have never had one on prior dirt bikes so I was wondering if this is a feature I don't really need. Thanks for your help in advance.

You need that fan on that bike or you will over heat. I have 2 fans on my 511. They will over heat fast unless you keep it moving in 3rd gear with no fan.

You might be able to straighten and use the radiator, but being aluminum i'm betting it's stretched and some of the holes won't line up anymore. If you can't use it I highly recommend Myers Radiators. They're bigger and heavier duty by far than stockers, look and feel to be super tough (I put one on my flat tracker, and if it gets mashed up I'll have more to worry about than the radiator). Also as Tinken said, check out the 7602 radiator braces. I just put a set on my TC450, they're sweet, and again if my radiators get wadded with those on, I'll have more important things to worry about than the radiators.

Thank you all for the information, it is appreciated. What are the websites that you suggest for buying husky parts (especially the fan). My closest dealer is 4 hours away. I am also very interested in the 7602 radiator braces since this was my first crash and totally wrecked it.

Are you using the 7602 braces and guards? Any problems with loss of cooling ability?
I'm only using the box braces at this time, not the guards. That said, I've used the DeVol guards on other bikes (same only different) and not noticed the bikes running any hotter. I reckon I'll install the guards sooner rather than later.

Bill's (BMP here) has both the fan and the braces and guards in stock. www.billshusky.com

I don't know about other brands, but the 7602 guards have provisions for mounting the fan without having to invent something yourself.

Rad guards, high flow rads, and some better coolant, ie, Engine Ice or Evans. The ching chang radiators on ebay are actually pretty nice. They've held up on my WR300 for 4 races now with no issues. I think I paid $140 for them or so..Cant rememember. I did see they are making the TE rads tho. I also relocated the horn and put it up behind the front headlight/number plate. I was afraid something would force that into the radiator and also it was getting coated with a lot of dirt and mud which will certianly kill a horn.

Our guard design allows for max air flow. I have personally never had any problems.

So I put the fan on and is never came on again?? Been on a few rides thinking it was cooler and then today I had coolant bubbling out of the overflow. I hooked the fan up to power and it works. Where should I look next to figure out why it isn't working. Also is there some info on how to get rid of this CA soup can on the Left side of my bike?
Thanks in advance

Did you just refill the radiator? It will overflow when it heats up until it reaches its rest level and then stabilise. An easy way to check the fan system is to just start the bike in the driveway and let it idle, if steam starts spraying everywhere and the fan hasn't yet come on you can then go down the path of checking wiring and relays.

Otherwise it is odd if the fan works with external power but not from bike power. The temperature sensor itself or the wiring to it may be damaged. That or the power wire to the fan might have broke.

Thanks. I tried the driveway idle and it blew steam like crazy. Checked all the wiring and from what I can tell looks okay. I ordered a heat sensor today. Hope that fixes it. Is there a fuse for the fan?

Not sure about the fuse or wiring in general on the 449/511, there would either be a fuse just for the fan or a common one for a few components near that area. There would possibly be a releay in the mix too. I 'think' the fan is switched on directly from the temp sensor relay and doesn't go through the chip as such which may make it easier to trouble shoot, I could be wrong though.
