  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Crankcase vapor venting TXC/TE X-light

LFTKIKR

So I'm on my second airboot on the '10 TXC. It keeps ripping at the port on top where the crankcase vents into the boot. Im tired of replacing it, I suck dirt when it rips and there are none left in the US according to my suppliers.

Looking at the parts schematic for the 2011 models the FI TC vents the crank gas to the atmosphere. There is a plug in the port. Is there a filter on the end of the tube?... and where does it go?

I would like to plug the hole in the airboot and vent to the atmosphere.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this......, or does anyone see any problems with this?

I dualsported my 2010 txc x-lite a few weeks ago and on the road sections it would at high RPMs it would start sucking the oil out of the crankcase. So I just vent it to the open air now. i do believe most MX bike just vent to the open air.

Thanks, I have a workshop manual already. The TC vents somewhere other than the airboot. The schematic shows a plug in the very same hole blowby/windage gasses are routed too.... there is no way real liqiud based oils make it to the airboot(you would need a really worn out motor), there is too much distance to travel for the vapors to condense into actual oil and deposit into the airboot. I have no evidence of oil ever entering the airboot.

This is an emission device. Hot crankcase gasess= comprimised performance. PCV is a concept developed in the '70's when emission took hold in the auto industry. Anyway, I'm not debating the concept, just looking for what others have done.

The goal is to keep mud and water out.

My txc vented to the airboot and at high RPMs it pulled oil from the engine to the intake. The inside of the airboot was filled with oil. MY engine is not worn out. I NOW vent it to the open air just like my 2012 tc250. The vent hose hangs down just about to the bottom of the engine. My Honda crf250 and crf450 vented the same way.
